Master Gunner's First Posted Lifehack!
I am a huge fan on the Lifehacker website, and I've used lots of their tricks to help make my ife easier.
Recently, I have rediscovered recreational running. Usually, I run 6+ miles a day, on my own, just for fun. I purchased a Nike+ iPod kit to help me track my runs, and the only thing that irritated me was the HORRIBLE shoes availible to use with the kit.
So, after being inspired by Lifehacker and Podophile, I decided to "Lifehack" my OWN pair of shoes to use the kit:
I usually run in my Nike Shox COG running shoes. They have the benefit of being light, well cusioned, and very comfortable. Unfortunately, the Nike Shox COG is NOT Nike + iPod kit compatible.

Unfortunately, with the Nike+ kit, you are forced to buy running shoes with a specially-designed "cut out" in the inside of the shoe for a small Bluetooth transmitter. Like a dummy, I went out and about this $100 pair of shoes that were VERY HEAVY, because I was under the impression that I could ONLY use the kit with them.
Well, after being inspired by this site, I decided I could come up with an easier modification to my beloved running shoes so that I could still use them with the kit. First, I took a razor blade and cut the tongue of the COG, being careful not to cut right through it. Make sure the cut is JUST a tad smaller than the sensor (it will stretch a wee bit).
Next, inspect the cut you just made and trim any stray threads/fabric. Make sure the Bluetooth sensor will fit in the incision.
Slide the Nike + iPod Bluetooth transmitter/sensor into the new incision.
Lace up your shoe, fire up your iPod Nano, and GET TO RUNNING!
Admittedly, this is in no way, shape, or form related to the Global War on Terror (the theme of this blog), but if I can help some health-conscious Tanker Brothers and Sisters some money by NOT having to buy new shoes to use the kit....
