Only in Berkeley? NOT!!!

WTF is going on in America? Just when you may have thought only Berkeley has something in the water, comes another story of a Mayor being an ass to OUR Marines. Where, you ask? Toledo, Ohio is where. No, I am not kidding! Minding my own business - as I do..lol - I found the following on Blackfive:

Yet Another Mayor Tells Marines to Get Out!

Posted By Laughing_Wolf Courtesy of Instapundit comes this story of a mayor not just ordering Marines out of town, but setting up a police roadblock to enforce same. It seems the mayor of Toledo got his little feelings hurt that he wasn't informed about the Marines returning for an urban training exercise -- an exercise that at least one Marine credited with helping him in real life in Fallujah. A claim by the mayor's spokesman that an alternative site was offered appears to be news to the Marines. Apparently, since he wasn't informed, the mayor decided to show his power (and lack of other attributes) in a fit of pique....

Go read the rest here. Me, being me, I followed the link to the original story:

Staff Sgt. Andre Davis talks to his commanding officer as he leaves the Madison Building after Mayor Carty Finkbeiner requested that the Marines leave the downtown location. ( THE BLADE/JEREMY WADSWORTH )

Mayor to Marines: Leave downtown
He says urban exercises scare people

A company of Marine Corps Reservists received a cold send-off from downtown Toledo yesterday by order of Mayor Carty Finkbeiner.
The 200 members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., planned to spend their weekend engaged in urban patrol exercises on the streets of downtown as well as inside the mostly vacant Madison Building, 607 Madison Ave.
Toledo police knew days in advance about their plans for a three-day exercise. Yet somehow the memo never made it to Mayor Finkbeiner, who ordered the Marines out yesterday afternoon just minutes before their buses were to arrive.
"The mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people," said Brian Schwartz, the mayor's spokesman....

Puleeeeeeeeeze! Go read the rest here. Even over here in Bratville, we have the military practising urban exercises. I would rather see our TROOPS on our streets than some of these ******(fill in your own adjectives) Mayor and Council people.

"...they frighten people,...". Would someone please make sure this Mayor in Toledo tunes in on Tuesday to see what is happening to his Berkeley counterpart? Afraid of the Marines? Mayor Finkbeiner might just find he has waaaaaaay more to be afraid of than the professional Marines in his town. Just sayin' ;)
