Another fire - another call for help

Yes, another fire has taken EVERYTHING some of our troops have. This time it is an army unit in Iraq. Excerpts from the calls for help I got:
It is ... Army and they are at FOB ****** which is somewhere in Baghdad and a pit hole to begin with....

40 guys lost EVERYTHING - I MEAN EVERYTHING - so anything is good as they have nothing. More than that lost some things due to water and smoke and all the other things that come with a fire...

It can be as small as snacks or coffee or towels or socks or t-shirts or underwear - I mean they lost everything..

...ARMY unit who had a fire in their building and they lost EVERYTHING!! I mean these kids lost their uniforms, ipods, computer, cd's, DVD's, shoes, towels, Literally everything! ...

...but it was like close to 100 soldiers who are without anything....They are all male soldiers....

I combined a few different emails to put this together - but the main point is that these guys lost EVERYTHING. If you can help with any of this - or donate money to help cover costs of the stuff that has also ready gone out via Soldiers' Angels - please email me at:

tankerbrosbrat@gmail.com

or my personal email addy if you know me well enough to have that.;) If I know you, I can give you a direct POC. If I don't know you, I'll give you the gmail addy of the person within SA who is co-ordinating this one.

Let's get THIS one done. Thank you!

Someone made time for our wounded troops

Found the following over at Mudville Gazette (via Blackfive.lol). As I comment on Mudville, I won't be holding my breath waiting for this to be on the front pages of any msm, but as I have said before, who needs the old media anyway? Read on:

Someone made time for our wounded troops

Mrs Greyhawk

Why isn't this in the news?...

Iraq’s Interior Minister Thanks U.S. Troops for Liberating Iraq -- [CNS News]

A top Iraqi official visited wounded American troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Tuesday to thank them for their part in ending Saddam Hussein’s rule in his country.

“We have come … to express our gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by these great warriors, soldiers, in freeing the Iraqi people and in helping us in Iraq recover from tyranny and dictatorship,” Jawad Karim al-Bolani, Iraq’s minister of the interior, said through a translator to a handful of journalists in the lobby of the medical center.
...probably because all the major networks are following some other guy

Go read the rest here. Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone gave this to Obama to read? Maybe he would get a clue? Naaaaaaaaah, never mind.

U.S. Army

An Eagle Scout, Thomas M. Martin took on cleaning up an old red train caboose as a service project. “He remodeled it to make it where people could go inside. If you saw it before and looked in it after he was through - it was daylight and dark”, said his former principal, Robert Martin, who is no relation. “Tom was involved in Key Club, German Club and band, making All-Region Band his sophomore year”, said Robert Martin. “He was a wonderful young man. Those that knew him knew he was funny and outgoing.”

Lt. Martin died in Al Busayifi, Iraq of wounds sustained from small-arms fire when insurgents attacked his unit during combat operations. He enlisted in the Army in 1998 after graduating high school and served in Korea before accepting an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 2005.

“He was very polite and respectful. I can’t think of him ever overreacting; he had a wonderful, good-natured personality”, said Pat Hagge, a family friend. “It’s a terrible tragedy; he was a great young man.”

Lt. Thomas Martin is survived by his parents, Edmund and Candis.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Squirm on, Obama!

By now, everybody has heard about the 'on again, off again' non trip of Senator Obama to Landstuhl to visit our wounded. The internet has been full of differing opinions on what really happened, and Obama and his sycophants have flip flopped in their usual fashion. (He may need to see a doctor for injuries sustained from all the flip flopping before November 4th...just saying..lol)

However, all that aside ;) the truth WILL out. Senator Obama hasn't yet figured out that every time he tries to pull the wool over our eyes, along comes a a real expert who easily debunks his nonsense.

Via Blackfive here comes a link to this statement from an expert:

Former Landstuhl CSM on Non-Visiting Presidential Candidate

Posted By Blackfive

Over at the Tank, the former Command Sergeant Major of Landstuhl Regional Medical Facility has some words about a certain Presidential candidate...

And what does this expert have to say? Follow the link to here, and this is what you have:

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Former CSM of Landstuhl on Obama [Gregory S. McNeal]

The former Command Sergeant Major of Landstuhl from 2003 to 2005 released this statement today regarding Senator Obama's decision to not visit wounded soldiers in Landstuhl:

Having spent two years as the Command Sergeant Major at Landstuhl Hospital, I am always grateful for the attention that facility receives from members of Congress. There is no more important work done by the United States Army than to care for those who have been wounded in the service [of] our country. While Americans troops remain engaged in two hot wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is a steady stream of casualties to the hospital, and a steady stream of visitors who wish to meet with those troops and thank them for their service.

Senator Obama has explained his decision to cancel a scheduled visit there by blaming the military, which would not allow one of his political advisers to join him in a tour of the facility. Why Senator Obama felt he needed an adviser with him to visit U.S. troops is unclear, but if Senator Obama isn't comfortable meeting wounded American troops without his entourage, perhaps he does not have the experience necessary to serve as commander in chief.

Iraq Fact Check: Responding To Key Myths

MYTH: The security gains seen in Anbar Province and Iraq as a whole are not because of the surge.

  • FACT: The increased number of troops enabled U.S. Commanders on the ground to implement a more comprehensive counterinsurgency strategy based on local population security.
  • FACT: The surge provided a security umbrella and thereby demonstrated American commitment to Iraqis already standing up to terrorists – encouraging expansion of the Anbar Awakening and Sons of Iraq.
  • FACT: The surge allowed Iraqi Security Forces to grow in skill and number. More than 540,000 individuals serve in Iraqi Security Forces–an increase of more than 133,000 soldiers and police over the past 16 months.
  • FACT: Recent operations against Shiite extremists in Basra and Sadr City and al Qaeda in Mosul highlight improvements in the ability of the Iraqi Security Forces to clear and hold cities.
  • FACT: The Iraqi military recently stated that the number of "terrorist attacks" in June declined 85 percent from the same period one year ago.
  • FACT: Insurgent weapons caches are being found and cleared with increasing frequency as more civilians reassured by the new level of security become emboldened to come forward with information and tips. U.S. and Iraqi Security Forces found 3,146 weapons caches in Anbar last year versus 1,213 in 2006.

MYTH: The Sons of Iraq (SoI) existed prior to the surge.

  • FACT: While there had been some local demonstrations of commitment in places like Ramadi prior to the surge, it was the surge that emboldened Iraqis to stand up nationwide through organizations like the Sons of Iraq.

MYTH: President Bush has changed his position in recent weeks on supporting a timetable for withdrawal:

  • FACT: President Bush has consistently stated U.S. forces will return home based on when Iraq is capable of defending its new democracy based on conditions on the ground.

  • FACT: On July 17, 2008, President Bush and Prime Minister Maliki agreed that improving security conditions should allow for a general time horizon for meeting aspirational goals and that the goals would be based on continued improving conditions on the ground, not an arbitrary date for withdrawal.
And THEM'S the facts, folks. Sent to me by my pal CJ - of A Soldier's Perspective here - who knows what he 's talking about... because he IS an active duty soldier AND blogger.

Thank YOU, CJ! :)

Video - Muslims: The New Protected Species - Calling Bloggers

Battle Cry for Britain

Quotes from the video:
More polygamy, domestic violence, forced marriages, and honor killings.

A time when silence becomes a guilt, a sin
Whole sections of Britain are now considered dangerous "no-go" zones for non-muslims
A government haunted by political correctness.
A hornets nest of extremism in Britain
Hardcore Islamisits have not been assimilated into society
Many Muslims do not want Shari'a law, yet it might be foisted on them by political leaders

Note from Maggie:
Assimilating hardcore Islamists into society"
It is essential to understand that "hardcore" Islamists will NEVER be assimilated into society. Britain's leadership has been courting Muslims for a very, very long time.
That relationship enabled the theft of Israel's mandated land at the time of their statehood.
The world cannot show one capitulation to Islam that has been for the good of society

Calling All Bloggers: "Capitulation to Islam is Inevitable
Cross-posted by Loyal Eagle fromDaily Insults

I'm hoping other bloggers -- no, I pray other bloggers will pick-up this story and drum the hell out of it; bloggers better suited than I to prepare the rest of us for the battle on the horizon. Let our cry be: "We Will Not Let Freedom Die Without Us At Her Side."

This story is about one blogger in particular, Paul Ray, and what's happening to him and to our brothers and sisters across the pond. The politically-correct, multiculturalism, British thought-police arrested Ray for blogging about radical Muslims who were promoting jihadism. They arrested Ray for allegedly inciting racial hatred - not the radical imams. His specific crime? Well, he called the radicals who advocated the beheading of infidels - meaning us -- 'savages.' For the life of me, I wouldn't know what else to call them either.

Capitulation to Islam is becoming a reality, and it's also closer to home than you think. From what I now understand, there are other similar instances that occurred here in the United States, which I hope bloggers across the Internet will investigate.

First, take a look at what's going on in England. See anything familiar?

The [British] government has made so-called "hate speech," illegal, but it also depends on who is doing the hating. When one group of British citizens protested the Mohammed cartoons at the Danish embassy in London in 2006, they expressed their allegiance to Osama bin Laden, and called for beheadings and nuclear attacks against Denmark Britain and America. Yet British police arrested no one, until there was a public uproar.

Compare that to when Britain's Channel 4 Dispatches program exposed violent rhetoric in local mosques. British police initially decided to charge - not the radical imams who were promoting violence and bigotry - but the news program that did the report, for allegedly stirring up racial hatred.

For now, it suffices to scream a new battle cry in unison, "We will not let Freedom die without us at her side." Those are fighting words, my friends, and perhaps I could even be arrested for writing and promoting them. But, I was born in New Hampshire and my "Live Free or Die" spirit came with me.

End Loyal Eagle's post.

Mea Culpa

The s*** is hitting the fan about an email posted all over the blogosphere about the veracity of a GI who gave a 'first person' account of part of Barak Obama's "fact finding" tour last week. I chose to post the GI's words here after I came across it on another milblog. My first inkling that all was not as it appeared - gasp! - came in the form of a comment to me from a Vietnam veteran friend.

I went back to my original source, and find that, in fact, the GI is recanting some of his words. Curiouser and curiouser, even though some of the information in the original email was retracted, there appears to some interesting choice of photo images. From Blackfive:

The Army Times and AP Use False Photo to Denounce "Obama Blew off the troops" email

Posted By Blackfive

RE: Obama's visit to Bagram

First, I must say thank you to commenter FreedomWarrior. Without his cynical posts, I would not be able to point this out.

The Army Times decided to weigh in on the email from Afghanistan about the Obama visit. Please go read their account.

Yes, for the thousandth time, we have established that Senator Obama did not play basketball at Bagram airfield or visit a specific tent.

I apologize, sincerely and contritely, for posting an email from a soldier in Afghanistan suggesting that Senator Obama played basketball.

However, that is not very important in establishing whether he did indeed blow off the troops (like Landstuhl). I posted photos of the Senator meeting with troops at Camp Eggers and other places. He did meet with troops and did not blow them off at other bases. This is a fact (one that we here at Blackfive helped establish). I commend Senator Obama for visiting the troops and making his first trip to Iraq.

I have been asking for photos and searched for hours for photos of the Senator talking to troops at Bagram. That would debunk this whole notion that he didn't talk to the troops at Bagram, wouldn't it?

At that Army Times post, part of their evidence is a photo of Senator Obama talking to troops at Bagram - the caption states "Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama speaks to troops at Bagram Air Field on July 19.".

Here's the AP photo on the Army Times site:

Army_obama500_072708
AP Photo

Just one minor problem here - that's not Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

THAT'S CAMP ARIFJAN, KUWAIT.

There is more - of course - and you really should read that here.

And yes, the Army Times DID weigh in, and go directly to the source in the sandbox.

Officer: Part of anti-Obama e-mail was wrong

By Matthew Cox and Rick Maze - Staff writers
Posted : Sunday Jul 27, 2008 10:04:27 EDT
An Army officer’s negative e-mail account of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s visit with the troops in Afghanistan that set the blogosphere ablaze prompted Army officials to correct aspects of the e-mail and resulted in a statement from the message’s author that “some of the information that was put out in my e-mail was wrong.” (source)

In that interview, the original writer of the email says:

“I am writing this to ask that you delete my e-mail and not forward it, after checking my sources some of the information that was put out in my e-mail was wrong. This e-mail was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the e-mail and if there are any blogs you have my e-mail portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too.”

I have removed this original post as per this soldier's request. Yes, of course, this whole incident does raise questions about the integrity of us bloggers who rushed to print. In this instance, I am as guilty as much of the msm who I have always been quick to accuse of apparent bias. BUT - as anyone who knows me will tell - if the main player in this whole trip had been McCain, or anyone else, with the same email sent out, I would have printed it. I like to think that my political opinions do not get in the way of even-handed presentation of the facts. In this case, I did print something that the source later retracted. And yes, unlike the msm, I am printing MY apology on the "front page," not page G36.

I am guessing that this GI has now learned what many of us have been aware of for a loooooong time. Once anything goes out on the internet, the original author loses control of it.

It is often said that in times of war, truth is the first victim. This episode has reminded me of the need for vigilance in the pursuit of that truth.

No excuses from me though - mea maximus culpa.

DoD Lab Helps to Resolve Century-Old Russian Mystery

Over the years our military expertise has contributed much to civilian society.

Since the massacre in 1918 of Nicholas II and his family in Russia, many mysteries has continued as to who - exactly - was murdered then. Courtesy of the Defence Dept DNA identification lab, comes the following:

WASHINGTON, July 15, 2008 – A Defense Department DNA identification lab has helped bring to a close a near-century-old mystery, laying to rest a search for the remains of two children executed alongside the rest of the family of Russia’s last czar.

Click photo for screen-resolution image
This male leg bone sample found in a small grave in Russia positively identified the remains there as the only son of the last czar of Russia, eliminating rumors that some escaped the family’s execution in 1918. Courtesy photo
(Click photo for screen-resolution image);high-resolution image available.

In the midst of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1918, the imprisoned Nicholas II, his wife and five children were shot and killed along with four loyal servants in the basement of a merchant’s house. The ruling Bolshevik party eventually would become the communist party of the Soviet Union.

What happened to the bodies remained somewhat of a mystery for years. Rumors circulated of survivors of the execution. Hundreds came forward over time claiming to be a surviving member of the royal family. The most prominent was Anna Anderson in 1920, who claimed to be the czar's youngest daughter, Anastasia.

More than a decade ago, the Russian government asked the Armed Forces DNA Identification Lab in Rockville, Md., to use its cutting-edge technology in DNA testing to help confirm the identify the royal family’s remains after a mass grave was discovered. The lab positively identified the remains of the czar, his wife and three daughters, and later disproved Anderson’s claims of royal heritage....

I found this a fascinating insight, not only into the Russian mysteries, but also the inner workings of the DoD. Go read the rest of this here.

Every Day Heroes

Meet Sergeant Ezequiel Mora:

Sergeant Ezequiel R. Mora

One of the Baghdad neighborhoods covered by Sergeant Ezequiel Mora’s patrol in May of 2007 was Hurriyah, a hotbed of militia activity. While passing through Hurriyah, Mora’s four Humvee convoy was attacked. An explosively formed penetrator, the most lethal type of roadside bomb, went off just as insurgents fired on the convoy with small arms.

The EFP had caused catastrophic damage to the vehicle in the rear of the column, which had the platoon medic and convoy commander in it. He directed his vehicle to be turned around to the disabled and burning Humvee. Ignoring the heavy volume of hostile fire, he leapt out to assist the trapped soldiers. He bravely attempted to rescue the gunner of the Humvee, though temporarily overcome by smoke inhalation he recovered and joined another soldier in continuing the rescue. While doing so, he noticed the platoon’s medic on the ground, badly wounded and Mora immediately began administering first aid. Once another soldier relieved him, Mora moved to the other side of the Humvee to cover his fellow soldiers.

It was then that he noticed that the gunner from the Humvee was finally free, but was bleeding heavily from his left leg. Mora swiftly applied a tourniquet to the leg to stop the bleeding. Realizing that they were in an exposed position, Mora and another sergeant took turns carrying the wounded gunner to safety, all while under fire from the insurgents. When reinforcements arrived, Mora helped to successfully evacuate the gunner to the Green Zone for medical care.

Because of his courageous actions and steadfast determination, Sergeant Ezequiel Mora helped save the lives of several of his fellow soldiers and as a result, was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor.

[Go here to find a link to a recent ABC interview with the Sgt.]

Thank you for your service, Sergeant Mora.

A mother's heart

One week ago I shared with you the news of Cpl. James Hayward Arnal who is the latest Canadian hero to pay the ultimate price in service to our country. You can read that post here.

Today, Cpl Arnal's mother spoke to the media about her precious son. We have often marvelled about where we find such brave men and women who step up to serve. Listening to this mother, I get an inkling.

Wendy Hayward-Miskiewicz:

Wendy Hayward-Miskiewicz breaks down after leaving a rose on the casket of her son during his repatriation ceremony at CFB Trenton on Tuesday.

(Tom Hanson/Canadian Press)

"We were like best friends. We talked about everything. He was an ambassador for life. He embraced life with every breath," said Wendy Hayward-Miskiewicz.

"Soldiering was so befitting to him, to protect the very freedom to live life to its fullest."...

"I will be honest. I had reservations about his second tour and I actually asked him to reconsider. But James's reply was, 'Mom, it's the right thing to do,' and I couldn't argue with that," Hayward-Miskiewicz said.

"He was raised to care about the things that mattered and to make a difference. He certainly didn't have to die to make us proud."

Arnal's mother expressed gratitude to the military, to friends, family and neighbours and even to strangers who have shown their support after her son's death.

"I would like to give our condolences to families and friends of fallen heroes. My heart goes out to you all and it gives me some comfort to know that James is with your heroes," she said.

The family will continue sending care packages to soldiers overseas, she said...(courtesy CBC here)

Let us always remember the mothers, with gratitude and honour

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, July 24, 2008) -- On July 26, 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed Executive Order 9981, establishing the President's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services. It was accompanied by Executive Order 9980, which created a Fair Employment Board to eliminate racial discrimination in federal employment.

Segregation in the military services did not officially end until the Secretary of Defense announced on Sept. 30, 1954 that the last all-black unit had been abolished. However, the president's directive put the armed forces at the forefront of the growing movement to win an equal social role and equal treatment for the nation's African-American citizens.

The Army began integrating units during the Korean War. Eighth Army commanders in Korea began filling losses in their white units with individuals from a surplus of black replacements arriving in Japan in late 1950. By early 1951, 9.4 percent of all African-Americans arriving in theater were serving in some 41 newly and unofficially integrated units, according to retired Army historian Morris J. MacGregor Jr. in his book, Integration of the Armed Forces, 1940-1965 . ...

Lt. Col. (Dr.) Margaret Swanberg is the only Army neurologist deployed to Iraq. Roadside-bomb explosions have been a leading cause of traumatic brain injuries that can vary from compression and bruising of the brain to damage to the nerves that send signals from the brain to the rest of the body.

“The fact that [the 1st Armored Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team] ended up with a neurologist was really just a matter of luck,” Swanberg said, “but it has given me the chance to evaluate soldiers in person and give the other medics and doctors guidance and training.”

Swanberg serves as the officer in charge of the Sgt. Robertson Aid Station here. Her dedication to the job benefits soldiers throughout Iraq, as she trains medics throughout the country on military acute concussion evaluation, or MACE.

For six years before her deployment, Swanberg worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, D.C., as a behavioral neurologist with patients who have Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The decision to deploy her came when Walter Reed leaders received a request for a doctor and reviewed their list of soldiers on deployable status. The professional filler system, which holds the names of all primary care military doctors, chose to send Swanberg because of her experience in a field that would help soldiers in Iraq.

From Lionheart: THE END

In January of this year, I wrote a piece on Tanker Bros called: Freedom of Speech? Not so much!"

In that column I highlighted three countries where freedom of speech, an accepted right for most of us - or so you would think - was under attack. For background, go read that here.

I told you about Lionheart, a blogger in England whose life work - speaking the truth about the threat of Islamic terrorism in England - was under scrutiny by the authorities. Not only that, but Lionheart has been receiving much attention by factions who object to the beacon of truth which he shone on FACTS that threaten the fabric of the English society that I know and love.

Today, an update from, and about, Lionheart. In his usual style, Lionheart speaks loudly and eloquently, and needs no extra commentary from me. I URGE you to read all of this piece if you read nothing else this week. HE has seen - and recognises - the enemy within. How about you?

THE END

From Lionheart
23 July 2008

I was due to attend Greyfriars Police station today to answer bail regarding my arrest on ‘suspicion of stirring up racial hatred’ through written material on this blog.
I was advised by my solicitor/lawyer yesterday that he had spoken to DC Holden regarding my attendance at the police station today and he told him that a decision still had not been made concerning me and my case so they are going to be bailing me for a further few months.
So the leash is still around my neck, but it’s more of an extendable leash now, like the one you put your dog on so they can run a little further, rather than a chock chain.

I lost everything because of the drug dealing gangs of Pakistani Moslems from Luton, my home, by business, my way of life and over 18 months of my life. And I thank God daily for it because my blog now stands as a testimony for others to read about what is going on in Luton & Dunstable, which is Al Qaeda’s frontline within Great Britain, and the Islamic community that has set up camp there. There are many cowards out there who disrespect me but just remember you’re the one who ran away not me, I’m just taking a rest now.
Let’s not forget that Luton played a central role on 7/7 and during ‘operation crevice’ the biggest anti-terror operation in British history which saw the bomb maker of the plot who was a taxi driver from Dunstable wanting to buy a dirty bomb from the Russian mafia in Belgium, and the Emir of the plot who was also said to be the recruiter of the lead bomber on 7/7 Mohamed Siddique Khan also another Pakistani Moslem known as Q from Bury Park Luton. All these known factual links to International Islamic Terrorism and Al Qaeda’s War against Great Britain from this one locality of Luton.

My blog is an on the ground assessment of what is happening on the streets of Luton & Dunstable with regards to the paramilitary force of British born Pakistani Moslems, and then beyond what is happening on the streets, out of sight and mind.Blended into the Bury Park community of Luton, living in the shadows is Al Qaeda in Britain, trained courtesy of Osama Bin Laden and the terror camps of Afghanistan/Pakistan who are now recruiting and commanding their Moslem brothers on our British streets.Jihad (Holy War) against us and our way of life for Islam is their message.
By the time the British State have decided what they want to do with me I will have lost another year of my life to them, having the stress of these legal proceedings hanging over my head, and then I could lose another year if they finally decide to charge me and all for writing and telling people what I see with regards to Islam’s War within Great Britain and against our Western Civilisation, and calling Moslems savages. As an uneducated man and not politically correct I think savages fits them quite well after watching beheadings, suicide bombings on buses and trains, flying planes into towers, chopping off peoples limbs for the most trivial of offences, the hatred that is aimed at those outside of the religion, and the hatred towards women and homosexuals and all because of the teachings of the religion. The list could go on and on, these are just a few examples that spring to mind of why I call Moslems savages. The politically correct term for those who have jobs and careers to protect is - Terrorist

Ok not all Moslems act in that way but if they class themselves as Moslems by carrying the label and embracing the religion then they condone what is at the core of the religion which is the teachings of a 7th Century barbarian who was a bloodthirsty warmongering child molesting paedophile false prophet rapist
.Many who claim the label ‘Moslem’ only do so because it has been passed down from the generations, they don’t know the true heart and soul of the religion because they have never delved into the deepest depths of the pit of the religion. Those who do know the heart and soul are the religious Moslems who are committed to furthering the agenda of the Islamic religion in Great Britain and are the driving force. Those who profess moderation and peace are a different side of the same coin they just have a different way of achieving the end time goal which is Islamic Rule upon the British Isles. This is the mandate of the Islamic Religion that all Moslems if they are true Moslems must adhere to and carry out, those who profess moderation and peace are taking the long term approach and those conducting Holy War are taking the faster approach, but both have the same end result in mind and they both work in tandem together. So don’t believe the lies.
If a Moslem doesn’t want to live under Sharia Law then he/she is not a Moslem, it is like me as a Christian saying I don’t believe in Jesus, its that simple, and we have 3+ million Moslems in our Country. Those who carry the label ‘Moslem’ but know nothing about the heart and soul of the religion know in the back of their minds that if they reject the label then they face a death sentence from religious Moslems as an act of apostasy which is one of the most abhorrent things imaginable and has no place within our civilized society but as with many other things it is an integral part of the Islamic religion. If a Moslem leaves the religion he/she must be murdered for this offence, and there are many willing Moslem murderers out there willing to please Allah by shedding Apostate blood. Those who leave Islam should find a place of safety and sanctuary within our land, and the Church is the place where you will find it, then you can break off the shackles that bind you and receive the Love of Jesus Christ from His servants, those like Bishop Nazir Ali who knows all to well about Apostasy among many other things within Great Britain. He himself is now a target of the military wing of Islam because he dared speak out on behalf of the British people about the Islamification of Great Britain; does this not tell you something that everyone who speaks negatively about Islam has to live under fear of death?

And this is supposed to be a civilized 21st Century democracy in which we live.No wonder there are so many cowards out there, but what does the future hold for our children and grandchildren with so many cowards in society who are doing nothing about those who are seeking to destroy all of our futures? We cannot escape the facts in today’s British society...

There is more, MUCH more over at Wake Up America. Go read here; inform yourself TODAY! NOW! And then ask yourself: what are YOU willing to do to protect your country from the enemy within? Well?

The Man Who Could Topple Jack Murtha

I am sure you all remember my most recent column on Murtha. You know, the one I titled

I am a M**tha F*****!

If you read that (and I know at least eight of you did!...lol) you may remember I introduced you to William Russell, as a real alternative to Murtha. Today, Michelle Malkin has a column up on Family Security Matters, which addresses this contender.:

A jaw-dropping political miracle may be on the horizon. No, I'm not talking about the second coming of the Obamessiah. I'm talking about the long-deserved comeuppance of troop-smearing, pork-feasting, scandal-tainted Democratic Rep. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania.

The 18-term congressman's challenger, staunch conservative Republican newcomer William Russell, raised nearly $670,000 in the second fundraising quarter. Earmark king Murtha scraped together a measly $119,000. Russell's underdog campaign bested Murtha without the perks of incumbency, national name recognition, big PAC donations or mainstream media support.
Even more amazing: The 45-year-old Russell, a Desert Storm veteran, former Army lieutenant colonel and Army reservist who survived the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon, was not even publicly campaigning during the quarter. He is on active duty with the Army until after Aug. 1 and is barred from actively campaigning until then.
If all that didn't make this enough of an inspiring David and Goliath story: In February, a Pennsylvania judge ruled that Russell had failed to collect enough signatures to make the primary ballot. But Russell refused to give up on his goal of permanently redeploying Murtha from his entrenched seat of power in Washington. The GOP neophyte persevered on a shoestring budget and won more than 4,000 write-in votes in the spring to earn a spot on the general election ballot. According to Russell's campaign manager and veteran GOP activist Peg Luksik, the bulk of contributions from about 16,000 donors in the second quarter were less than $50...

Go here and read it all! Mooooooooooove on out, Murtha! You are so OVER!

Bat 'er Up!: A special request

As a Soldiers' Angel, I often get special requests sent to me. Today, I have one that I have been given permission to share here, in the hopes that we can get help for some of our troops. Read on:

Please read the below post. If you can help Cheryl find donated used equipment for this group before they arrive back at camp from this mission?

I appreciate anything you can do-

Looking for used baseball gloves, bats and baseballs to send to a group in Iraq.
They just left for a month long mission, and were told to expect it to be rough and nasty.

I am so hoping to have a few things there when they get back.
If you have some used, gloves, baseball, bats (bases are the cherry on top) and are willing to part with them, please email me cherlym1@gmail.com

Thank you..

Run for the Fallen

If it's Monday, Run for the Fallen must be in Longton, KS.

Since June 14, 2008, Flag Day, a dedicated team of runners has been running across America from Fort Irwin, CA to Arlington National Cemetery, one mile for every Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, and Marine killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. For ten weeks, team members are marking each mile with an American flag and signcard in an apolitical reflection of remembrance of each service member.

On the "Run for the Fallen" site, you can track the progress of this historical event, and see when they are coming to a community in your area. There are a number of ways you can be involved. Today, the run is scheduled to be over 64 miles. At the end of each long day, the runners are laying their heads wherever locals will open their doors and take them in. If you have spare room,(even if you don't!) why not invite these intrepid runners in for the night? If that's not possible for you, check their site, and show up on the route to show your support. These runners are doing this for all of us, since not all of us can be running anywhere, let alone across the country.

If you can't be on the route to encourage our runners, you might be able to donate $$. Maybe you can plan to be in DC on August 24, when the Run for the Fallen arrives at Arlington.
Our fallen heroes, and their families have given their all. Mike Stokely, Patrick Tainsh, Eddie Jeffers, Dusty Lee, Donald May, Kory and Cooper Weins, Michael Quinn, Aaron Jagger; just a handful of the fallen heroes who are being honoured on this run.

These men and women served their country, are part of America's history. To see how YOU can help in making history, check out the "Run for the Fallen" site. I gaurantee there is some way for you to contribute. Go here to check it out.

Stay tuned for updates.

"Hello, this is your IED, come save me..."

Photos by Bill Murray and Bill Roggio.
Bill Roggio at The Long War Journal has a great post about the Iraqi Army's famed "IED Hunter" in Mosul.
Fakhir’s activity and that of his brigade tells part of the story of the Iraqi Army’s struggle against Al-Qaeda and other insurgencies during the past three years. Throughout 2006 and 2007, the 2nd Division, which is led mostly by Kurdish officers, fought pitched battles with Sunni-led insurgents. At its peak, about 120 insurgents a month from places like Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Algeria were crossing the nearby border with Syria to participate in suicide bombings and other terrorist activity.
Best wishes to Major Mohammed for a swift recovery from his injuries...  He is proof of the courage and commitment of our Iraqi Army allies, and their relentless pursuit of terrorists and bombers, and their ever-increasing capability and successes in securing the future of their country.
Please take the time to read Roggio's post.

When I was deployed for my second tour in Iraq, I had the pleasure of serving alongside some of the most professional and competent Iraqi Army soldiers and officers. Leaving politics and religion at the door, they were all very focused, very competent, and commited to being the best they could be. Some of them held advanced degrees from institutions all over the world. I think that the perception of some people is that the Iraqi people (and by extension, the Iraqi Army) were mindless savages that we dressed up in camo, armed, and sent out to attack the enemy.

Consider, if you will, that in the 80's, the Iraqi Army fought the Iranian Army to an absolute standstill for a very long time. Also consider that cultural differences would make their mlitary doctrine from that period seem very alien and inefficient to a Westerner. For example, the concept of an after-action review was completely foreign to an Iraqi Soldier: to claim and acknowledge fault and bad decision-making was seen as weakness. Using live ammunition for anything other that fighting was seen as a waste of resources. As a result, there was no room for anything but the most basic of marksmanship training. Now, those ideas are a thing of the past: with help from the Coalition, the Iraqi Army now has structured and efficient training that (predictably) is remarkably similar to the US Army.

The build-up and training of the Iraqi Army is an amazing feat considering the security situation  and the speed in which it has been executed. From disbanding the Saddam-era conscripted Iraqi Army, to an all-volunteer force of thirteen fighting divisions in a period of five years is incredible when you consider the times to recruit, screen, vetting that must be conducted, train, and equip. Then consider that the process must be accomplished during some of the most dangerous times in the past five years, and that those thirteen divisions were recuited, screened, vetted, trained, and equipped smack dab in the middle of the place where they will fight, and all this must be accomplished during the fight... and only then can you even begin to appreciate what an amazing job the Iraqis and the Coalition have done.

Every Day Heroes

Meet Petty Officer 2nd Class Alan Dementer:

'Best time of my life, working with Marines'

Bronze Star with "V"
earned 3.26.03
while serving with
2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment

Life wasn’t supposed to turn out like this for Alan Dementer.

Less than four years ago, Petty Officer 2nd Class Dementer was being called a Navy hero. His friends and family watched with pride as he was pinned with a Bronze Star with a “V” device for his actions during the battle in Nasiriyah, Iraq, on March 26, 2003, while serving as a corpsman with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment.

Dementer, a strapping six-footer who single-handedly lifted and carried wounded Marines in full combat gear to safety through hails of enemy fire, was credited with helping treat 31 Devil Dogs through that long night.

When a mortar hit near the corpsman, throwing him onto his back and spraying him with shrapnel, he was so focused, with so much adrenaline coursing through his veins, he barely registered the pain.

In the aftermath of “the Nas,” the physical wounds from the shrapnel that sliced Dementer through the shoulder and leg healed fast.

The mental wounds are taking longer. Like many servicemembers who survived that battle, one of the invasion’s bloodiest tests, he’s still struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder.

But there was yet another layer of wounds Dementer suffered that day, wounds that couldn’t be healed with stitches or counseling.

“I didn’t know it at the time, but when I got knocked on my keester, I got blast injury,” Dementer said in a telephone interview with Stripes from his home near Iron Mountain, Mich.

What Navy doctors later found, after countless tests, was that the blast damaged nerves in his spine, up near his neck. As Dementer scrambled to move his Marine charges to safety, he unknowingly aggravated the damage.

But even if he had realized it, Dementer told Stripes, he wouldn’t have done anything differently.

Those Marines were not only his responsibility — they were his friends.

“The best friends I ever had,” he said.

Friends he misses desperately since he was medically discharged from the Navy in 2004.

Soon after Nasiriyah, Dementer said, he started getting shooting, burning pain in his legs, hands and arms, which would then go numb. His back hurt badly, and “I couldn’t lift much of anything.”

Still, “I was in denial,” Dementer said. He kept hoping the symptoms would go away. He wanted to get better so he could be assigned with another Marine unit and get back to the combat zone.

“All I wanted to do was go back to the Fleet,” he said. “That was the best time of my life, working with Marines.”

Instead, after returning from Iraq, Dementer and his family were transferred to Great Lakes Naval Station, Ill., where he spent countless hours at the naval hospital, trying to find the source of the trouble.

At first, doctors diagnosed him with polyneuropathy, a chronic and severe nerve pain that affects all the limbs, usually caused by a traumatic event.

They later refined that to diagnosis degenerative nerve disease, which means that not only will Dementer’s condition not improve, “it’s just going to get slowly worse and worse,” said his wife, Jerri, who had joined the telephone conversation.

When he got the news of his forced retirement from the medical board in 2004, Dementer had 16 years in the service — four critical years short of the all-important 20-year mark he needed to qualify for retirement benefits.

Those four years also pushed Dementer into the “exceptions” category of the so-called “concurrent receipt” law Congress passed in 2003.

Before 2003, military retirees were not allowed to collect both their monthly retirement stipend and any disability payment they may have earned from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Military advocacy groups tried to get the law changed for years, saying the two payments were unrelated. But Congress kept refusing, saying it was too expensive to taxpayers, and “double-dipping” to boot.

Finally, as of Jan. 1, 2004, the law was changed so that retirees with disability ratings of higher than 50 percent are allowed to collect both payments.

But the law exempts servicemembers who have been retired for medical reasons with less than 20 years of service. Like Alan Dementer.

These members are not allowed to collect both their monthly medical retirement from the Defense Department and the VA stipend. It’s one or the other. Since the VA stipend is higher, that’s the payment servicemembers take.

This is an issue that is increasingly affecting servicemembers who are getting hurt in Iraq and Afghanistan, he said.

Alan and Jerri Dementer are raising three children on just his VA disability payment, which amounts to about $2,000 (fully taxable) a month, plus whatever Jerri can earn providing day care from their home.

“For us [not getting both payments] means a few hundred dollars a month,” Dementer said. “That money would mean a lot to us.”

With gratitude for your service, Petty Officer 2nd Class Alan Dementer.

Remembering The Battle Of Fromelles

Today marks the 92nd anniversary of the darkest day in Australian Military History. The Battle of Fromelles was the first time the Australian Imperial Force saw battle on the western front and was later termed as 'The worst day in Australias entire history'. As the Battle of Somme raged approx 80 kms away, 5533 Diggers would be killed, wounded or taken prisoner in over a 24 hour period in a battle considered a total failure. In a devastating blow, 5533 Diggers and 1500 British Soldiers would be lost, wounded or taken prisoner without them gaining any ground. It was a decisive victory for Germany.

The Battle

The infantry went "over the top" at 6pm, after 11 hours of preliminary bombardment. The Australian 8th and 14th Brigades quickly gained their objectives. However, upon reaching the secondary line, they found no trenches and no viable means of defending their gains. The 15th Brigade and the British 184th Brigade were cut to pieces while attempting to cross a narrower section of no man's land, closer to German machine guns. A survivor, W. H. "Jimmy" Downing, later recalled: "[t]he air was thick with bullets, swishing in a flat, crisscrossed lattice of death. Hundreds were mown down in the flicker of an eyelid, like great rows of teeth knocked from a comb."

The unfolding disaster was compounded when the 61st Division asked the 15th Brigade to join a renewed assault at 9pm, but quickly cancelled its attack without informing the Australians. Consequently half of the Australian 58th Battalion made another futile attempt to capture the salient.

The Germans succeeded in driving a wedge between the 14th and 15th Brigades, splitting the Australian forces. Increasingly isolated and out-flanked, the 8th and 14th Brigades were forced to withdraw the following morning. The Germans by this time had set up machine gun enfilades, and the resulting crossfire inflicted devastating casualties on the retreating Australians.

Members of the Australian 53rd Battalion on July 19, 1916 before the Battle of Fromelles. Only three of the men pictured survived the battle and all three were wounded

Aftermath

The attack completely failed as a diversion, when its limited nature became obvious to the German defenders. A communiqué released to the press by British GHQ was not favourably received by the Australians. It read: "Yesterday evening, south of Armentières, we carried out some important raids on a front of two miles in which Australian troops took part. About 140 German prisoners were captured."

The battle was responsible for one of the greatest losses of Australian lives in one 24-hour period, surpassed only by later World War I actions like the Battle of Bullecourt. The 5,533 Australian casualties were equivalent to the total Australian losses in the Boer War, Korean War and Vietnam War combined. The 5th Division was effectively incapacitated for many months afterwards. Two battalions were effectively destroyed in the battle and had to be rebuilt: out of 887 personnel from the 60th Battalion, only one officer and 106 other ranks survived; the 32nd Battalion sustained 718 casualties. The Australian losses and conduct of the high command also significantly damaged relations between the AIF and the British.

It is believed that one of the German soldiers involved in the battle wasAdolf Hitler, then a 27-year-old corporal and a message runner in the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment, which was defending the Sugar Loaf salient. Hitler served on the Aubers-Fromelles sector from March 1915 until September 1916.

One of the more confronting aftermaths of this Battle though was the realisation that many Diggers and British Soldiers were buried in Mass Graves throughout France. An Australian Amateur Historian, Lambis Englezos, believed he had located the whereabouts of one of these mass graves, in a field on the edge of Bois Faisan ("Pheasant Wood"), just north of Fromelles. After a non invasive archealogical survey was held in 2007 it was discovered that this was, in fact, the final resting place of some of the Soldiers lost in this Battle.

On May 25, 2008, Australian defence personnel minister Warren Snowden said there was no doubt that bodies of Australian soldiers were buried there. That same day, an archaeological team from the University of Glasgow, contracted by the Australian government, began an exploratory dig at the site. Human remains were discovered on May 29. Six burial pits were excavated. Only 20% of the area of the pits was exposed, to minimise disturbance of the remains. Numerous artefacts were recovered, confirming the presence of both Australian and British bodies. It is estimated that several hundred soldiers are buried at the site.

Bodies were transported there on a German narrow gauge trench railway on July 22, 1916 and were tipped into eight pits measuring approximately 10 metres long, 2.2 metres wide and five metres deep. The remains were not discovered by official post-war burial campaigns during the 1920s, which resulted in British Empire war dead being interred in Imperial War Graves Commission (later known as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission; CWGC) cemeteries.

The owner of the site, Madame de Massiet, has pledged to donate the land to the CWGC. Discussions are under way between the British, Australian and French governments and CWGC, regarding the future of the site and the bodies interred there.

What followed was the following articles across Australian Newspapers concerning the dig and the history of Fromelles.

2000 lost on worst day of butchery

Call for photographs of those who fell at Fromelles

Memorial adds faces to names of fallen

Old photos pour in after appeal

More faces of Fromelles are revealed

Human remains found at Fromelles dig

Allow the dead to rest in peace

Dignity in death for Fromelles troops

Let fallen Digger lie with his mates

Fromelles Diggers may be unidentified

Riddle of Diggers of Celtic Wood

Badge evidence of Diggers at Fromelles

Once again our Diggers proved their strength, courage and tenacity in Battle. These attributes are what Australias foundations are built on, it is the reason we believe in and support our Diggers. With their mates beside them, no Battle is to daunting, no task to hard. They are our Diggers and we will remember them.....

Exclusive: Do First Ladies Make a Difference in Presidential Policy?

Ruth King

What a dreary political season. Obama moves a tad to the right and McCain just moves and that makes news all around. They both disappoint. So, in frustration, I turn to their wives for a hint about their judgment. All I get is silly sniffing at Michelle Obama's college thesis 23 years ago and sly asides about the Barbiesque Cindy McCain's addiction to pain pills.

Pillow talk with the Commander in Chief is mighty influential and we live in interesting times.

Hillary Clinton's election to the United States Senate and her recently "suspended" - but very credible campaign for the presidency - should have made candidates' spouses much more interesting.I'd like to know what the ladies think about terrorism, homeland security, education, immigration, energy and other issues of major national debate.

First Ladies have come a long way from the tradition set by our very first First Lady.

Martha Dandridge Custis, was a young and functionally illiterate widow when she married George Washington. She gamely followed her husband through the battles of the Revolutionary War and to the temporary capitals of New York and Philadelphia where she entertained the founding fathers. Before her death she burned all their correspondence and papers, but this appraisal of her role as First Lady, written to her niece survives: "I think I am more like a state prisoner than anything else, there is (sic) certain bounds set for me which I must not depart from..."

Poor Martha. At least she was spared the humiliations and scandals that plagued later First Ladies and the critical nastiness of the media, which described Ulysses Grant's wife Julia Dent as "cross-eyed and powerfully ugly."

No matter what Obama says, First Lady contenders ARE open to scrutiny. Read the rest of this one here.

Exclusive: Election 2008 – This ‘n’ That, Tit for Tat

Walter Anderson

A week ago, Barack Obama and John McCain spoke to the influential Hispanic group, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR). They did not speak together (maybe that was a good thing) but their appearances were a few hours apart. Their quest? To court the Latin American vote.

Obama made many passionate statements about his support for immigration reform during his talk to NCLR, but his comments clash with claims by Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) who says that Obama was "absolutely AWOL on the issue of immigration." Diaz-Balart also claims that "Sen. Obama joined up with one of the most anti-immigrant senators, Sen. [Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.)], to try to kill the second leg of that stool, the temporary-worker program, [which] was an absolutely indispensable ingredient, and will be in the future, to immigration reform."

Naturally, Obama also took an obligatory jab at McCain:

"I know Senator McCain used to buck his party on immigration in fighting for comprehensive reform, and I admired him for it and joined him in it. But when he was running for his party's nomination, he abandoned that courageous stand and said that he wouldn't even support his own legislation if it came up for a vote.

"I think it's time for a president who won't walk away from something as important as comprehensive reform just because it becomes politically unpopular. I will make it a top priority in my first year as the president of the United States of America."

Civil Military Operations Center Opens in Gamsir

Cpl. Randall A. Clinton, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit

At a forward outpost in Garmsir, a line of Afghans wait to talk with Marines at the newly opened Civil Military Operations Center; they have come to voice their claims and receive cash payments for losses incurred while Marines battled insurgents.

Flown over a sparsely decorated tent, three flags representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan flap in the wind, showing the people that this is not just a Marine Corps or American program. This is their government responding. The cash payments are in Afghan currency -- the people see the difference and welcome the Marine presence.

"You guys are different" the locals tell Master Gunnery Sgt. John Garth, civil affairs chief, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is operating with NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

"(The Afghans) know we come in with overwhelming force and might, but we also come in with compassion," he said.

Spc. Kisha Makerney

Spc. Kisha Makerney
23 years old from Fort Towson, Oklahoma
120th Engineers, Oklahoma Army National Guard

U.S. Army

Spc. Kisha Mackerney isn’t being profiled today because of something she did on the battlefield. She’s being profiled because her spirit and determination. In 2002, Makerney joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard out of a sense of patriotism, because, as she put it, “I love our country and our people.” Between 2004 and 2005, she served in Iraq as a gunner and helped provide battalion security. She returned home in early 2005 and was in a terrible motorcycle accident on June 25, 2005. The front wheel of her brand new bike had blown out and sent her flying into a highway sign. She looked up at her now mangled bike and was angry. That’s when she noticed that her left leg below the knee was missing. The first thing she thought of when she saw her leg was that her military career was over.

Makerney pulled herself out of the ditch that she had landed in and was able to flag down a passing motorist. She was taken to a hospital in Hugo, Oklahoma before being flown to Dallas, Texas.

As soon as word spread about her accident, her fellow soldiers, her second family, rallied and rushed to her bedside. “Even before I was out of surgery they were waiting in the halls,” she said.

Continue reading Spc. Kisha Makerney’s story here. There are some despicable comments by a few readers on the story. Just ignore them.

Inspiring Words....The True Strength Of An Army Widow..

When A Soldier falls in the heat of battle, guns blazing, they are immortalised. We feel such a great sense of loss that these heroes should die in defence of our countries and our ways of life. It is tragic, but it is expected. No war has ever been fought without casualties.

Rarely (although perhaps not rarely enough) are their actions called into question. They were Soldiers fighting for their country. They did what they had to do.

When a Black Hawk was lost in a landing accident on the HMAS Kanimbla in November 2006, Australia witnessed the tragic loss of 2 of it's finest Soldiers. It was a tragedy to the family of the 2 lost Soldiers, to their mates in the Defence Force and to Australia.

The Board investigating this tragedy recently revealed their findings. Included in this investigation was footage of the incident that was released for public viewing. One can only imagine the stress this might put the Family of the Pilot, Captain Mark Bingley, under.

Cpt Bingleys wife Melissa had this to say about the findings....

The Department of Defence is releasing this statement on behalf of Mrs Melissa Bingley, wife of Captain Mark Bingley, who died as a result of a helicopter accident on HMAS Kanimbla.

Mrs Bingley has requested her privacy be respected and has advised Defence that she will not be conducting any media interviews.

The Board of Inquiry has been an intense and exhausting process and the release of the report today ends a very long and public phase of our lives.

I am providing this statement to the media in good faith and sincerely request the media now respectfully allow myself, Mitchell and Mark’s family to live their lives in privacy and allow my husband Mark to rest in peace.

I am satisfied that the Board of Inquiry thoroughly examined all aspects of the accident in order to present their findings today.

I have only just received the report and will not comment on specific findings or recommendations. I would, however, like to make some general comments.

Mark was a loving husband and a caring father. Our son, Mitchell, was his pride and joy. Mark found his passion for aviation while serving as an Infantry soldier with the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment in Townville. He spent his own money and time to undertake civilian pilot training, and later applied for Army pilot training. It was his dream to fly Black Hawks for the Army and he considered it an absolute honour to serve with the men and women of 171 Aviation Squadron and alongside the Special Air Service Regiment. Mark served his nation on operational deployments in Cambodia, East Timor, and in the Solomons.

Mark was doing a job that he loved. But make no mistake, Mark knew his job was dangerous and he took the responsibilities of flying with passengers very seriously as he was once one of those soldiers riding in the back. I can say with absolute confidence Mark would never intentionally or recklessly place his crew or passengers in danger.
Mark loved his colleagues like siblings. He would have taken the deployment on Operation Quickstep to potentially evacuate Australians at very short notice from a hostile and dangerous environment as an important duty, and consequently Mark would have been committed and focussed on that mission.

I know Mark was operating in difficult conditions on board HMAS Kanimbla and the reality of wars and conflicts are that conditions will not always be perfect for flying. Mark had a very busy role as flying Captain, Qualified Flying Instructor and Squadron Flight Lead on Operation Quickstep. But Mark was a highly trained and very capable pilot – one of the Army’s best. Mark was not a machine, he was merely human – a very fine man doing an extraordinary job in the service of his country in extremely difficult circumstances. I remain fiercely proud of the job he did on that day and believe he did everything he could to save his passengers and crew.

Mark enjoyed all facets of his job – teaching, testing, planning, briefings, and leadership. And he had a very busy job. I know he would be upset about the possibility that the lifesaving equipment and training was not sufficient to give him and Joshua Porter the best chance of survival. The fact that there was a dive team in the water at the time of the accident was just too coincidental and I know that if the aircraft had not sunk so fast both Josh and Mark would have had more time to get out or have someone help them.

I don’t want Mark and Josh’s lives to have been lost in vain. There has to be some positive outcome. I do not want any of my friends to ever receive that knock at their front door because there was not enough done or learnt from this accident. It cannot happen again.

I believe that the ‘panduit strap’ on Mark’s breathing apparatus failed him. Crucial safety equipment cannot be vulnerable to such catastrophic failure and must be subject to rigorous testing before entering service as well as follow-on testing. I also feel that the question of flotation devices on the Black Hawks needs to be fully investigated and reconsidered, as does the present Helicopter Underwater Escape Training, which appears lacking in some respects.

I don’t think the Australian public has any true understanding of the sacrifices that the men and women of the Australian Defence Force make every day in the service of our country. The sacrifices and pressures put on our service members, their families and children must be recognised. They do their job for the love of their country and to help keep us safe from harm and for that I am truly thankful. The mateship and concern they have all shown to the families involved makes me believe the ANZAC Spirit lives on.
I do not agree with the Board’s decision to release the footage of the accident to the public on the first day of the hearing. I find it difficult to see the public interest in viewing a tragic accident. The public interest lies in being informed of the findings and recommendations of the Board in a timely manner, which is achieved through the timely release of the Board’s report and not being witness to a fatal helicopter accident. My son Mitchell has become much more aware these days and has been exposed to the footage in the past few weeks without notice courtesy of the media and their desire for graphic and shocking images. The footage has been sensationalised and has no public interest, and I call on the legislature to closely consider restricting the public release of such tragic footage in the future. The privacy and interests of the families must be a factor in deciding whether to release footage of an accident.

Finally, after years of hard work on pilot training and then serving his nation as an Army aviator, I am proud to say that Mark became one of the best Black Hawk pilots. I know that our son, Mitchell, will come to share that same sense of pride in Mark’s achievements in the years to come.

……………………..

This media release really moved me. Melissa and Mitchell Bingley, along with Marks family and friends, have so much to be proud of.

Capt Mark Bingley was an exceptional Soldier by all accounts and he did his country proud.

Captain Mark Bingley with wife Melissa and son Mitchell.

We can only wish Melissa and Mitchell all the best for the future.

obama speaks military colorado springs

A lot of mainstream press was given to Presidential hopeful Barack Obama when he spoke to veterans in Colorado earlier this month. On July 2nd, Obama spoke in Colorado Springs before a group of veterans. The context of his speech was to contrast his military experience and agenda with that of his main opponent, John McCain.

At the rally, Obama said he hopes the military community will see him as “a guy looking out for us and not someone trying to score cheap political points.” Really? Is that why Barack stocked the audience behind him with members of "Colorado Veterans", an anti-war group based in the area? After all, it was an invitation only event.

"Colorado Veterans" is another one of those kook organizations calling for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney and also prominently display the death totals on their website, highlighting a supposed toll of poor, Iraqi children killed "in cold blood" by the murderous United States troops. They are an anti-war group along the lines of IAVA, only more localized....

Army deserter's bid to avoid deportation rejected

Updated Mon. Jul. 14 2008 8:05 PM ET

The Canadian Press

VANCOUVER -- American army deserter Robin Long could be deported to his country as early as Tuesday after a Federal Court judge rejected his application for a stay of his deportation order.

Long, 25, fled to Canada in 2005 to avoid serving in Iraq. He was arrested in Nelson, B.C., last October on a Canada-wide warrant.

Bob Ages, chairman of the Vancouver War Resisters' Support Campaign, said Monday outside the court that he believes Long's removal would mark the first time an army deserter living in Canada has been deported.

Long said he sought refuge in Canada because the U.S. army wanted him to participate in what he calls an "illegal war of aggression in Iraq.''

In her ruling, Federal Court of Canada Justice Anne Mactavish says Long did not provide clear and convincing evidence that he will suffer irreparable harm if he is returned to the United States.

Mactavish notes that the percentage of American military deserters who are prosecuted for desertion has increased since 2002.

But she says the evidence also suggests that the vast majority of American deserters were not prosecuted let alone jailed for desertion....

Afghanistan: The other side of the coin

Last week I brought you the words of Afghan 'terps, who are working alongside the coalition forces to rebuild their country into a safe place to raise their families. Today? The other side of the coin. Last week I found a piece on another family: the bin Laden family. It seems one of the bin Laden sons is determined to follow in his father's footsteps. Canada Free Press carried this, and it should be required reading for......well, you know.lol... It really needs no extra commentary from me, so read on:

Sheikh Hamza bin Laden

“Baby-faced” bin Laden boy’s bar mitzvah debut on World Web

By Judi McLeod Wednesday, July 9, 2008

imageIt is only the British tabloids that could describe Osama bin Laden’s infidel-hating son, Hamza, as a poet.

“THIS (emphasis, The Sun’s) is Osama Bin (sic) Laden’s school-age son, who yesterday continued his father’s mission of hate—with a POEM (emphasis The Sun’s) begging for Britain to be destroyed.”

(Simon Hughes, Chief Investigative Reporter, The Sun, July 8, 2008).

Noting that the 16-year-old son of the world’s most wanted terrorist was “baby-faced”, The Sun pointed out that he has already been dubbed, the “Crown Prince of Terror”.

In his message to wannabe terrorists, bin Laden Jr. wants to “Accelerate the destruction of America, Britain, France and Denmark.”

Interesting how the youngest of the al-Qaeda leader’s brood of 18 sons would pick on Britain, a nation, arguably the world’s most accommodating in regards to radical Islam.

Indeed, the eldest son of that country’s reigning monarch, wants to change the words in the title of Prince of Wales as defender of the “faith”, to “defender of the faiths” (emphasis CFP’s) when he succeeds as king.

The threat from Hamza bin Laden appeared on an extremist website and apparently marked the three years since the 7/7 London terrorist attack that killed 52 innocents....

Every Day Heroes

Meet Lieutenant Scott H. Sparrow:

Lieutenant Scott H. Sparrow

With improvised explosive devices claiming more lives than any other weapon in Operation Iraqi Freedom, few assignments were more mission critical than the road clearance patrols performed in large part by Army engineers. Second Lieutenant Scott Sparrow of the United States Army was a platoon leader with Bravo Company, Task Force 321 Engineers, in Iraq. His engineering battalion served in support of several units in the area, including the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines. From September of 2006 through September of 2007, Sparrow led on over 200 missions to clear and secure the treacherous, but essential, roads near al Ramadi. Those central desert roads saw some of the highest volumes of IED attacks in all of Iraq.

During the course of these arduous missions, his platoon cleared over 160 improvised explosive devices – weapons that would have killed and maimed indiscriminately. The danger of these patrols was confirmed when vehicles in their platoon were hit over 15 times by IEDs, in addition to coming under numerous small arms and rocket attacks.

On one notable mission in the Lake TharThar region his unit cleared over 12 hidden weapons caches that had the components necessary to build a staggering 200 IEDs. Another startling find in the caches, was the presence of anti-air systems that would have posed a grave threat to the countless Coalition aircraft.

Sparrow and his platoon’s efforts contributed greatly to the stability of the area around Al Ramadi. Sparrow’s leadership, courage, and attention to detail made this effort possible. His actions have left a tremendous legacy behind him, a legacy that was cemented by follow-up safety operations that established four combat outposts. These outposts allowed for improved security in the region, due in no small part to Sparrow’s clearance patrols. For these reasons he was awarded the fourth highest honor in the United States military, the Bronze Star.

Thank you for your service, Lieutenant Sparrow.

RIP Signaller Sean McCarthy...

These are the posts that no one ever wants to have to write. When I fire up about something a post will flow and be out in 20 mins but these ones, I just never really know what to say.

For Australians, every loss of a Digger is a devestating blow. Many of us can still name every Soldier lost in combat since 2001. The national news still reports on the losses as does our mainstream media. For a country whose very identity was founded on the legend of the ANZACS and our Diggers, we sometimes find it hard to fathom that our Diggers are people just like us. But each loss reminds us they are human, they fall, they bleed and they do die.

THE Australian soldier killed in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan was a "top bloke" who had been looking forward to returning for his second combat tour of the country, close friends say.

SAS Signaller Sean McCarthy, a 25-year-old rugby-mad soldier from the Gold Coast, was killed when a bomb exploded near his vehicle, the Defence department has said.

Two other Australian special forces soldiers were injured, along with a soldier from another country.

Personnel who served with Signaller McCarthy, also known as "Seano", told NEWS.com.au he was a "bloody good bloke" and a talented soldier.

One army mate, Aaron Pearce, said Signaller McCarthy loved a joke, loved taking care of children and would never let down a friend.

"He was a big family dude - he used to play with my kids when they came around to the barracks,” Mr Pearce said.

“He wasn’t a dad himself, but he certainly carried himself like that." He also had a great sense of humour and was very quick-witted, he said.

Another former colleague told NEWS.com.au: "Sean was a great bloke who was very talented, he rarely complained and did his job to the best of his ability."

Pte of Perth said: "It was nice knowing ya Seano, we will continue the struggle and do you proud. RIP mate."

CPL MJP of Canberra said: "Catch you later Seano. All out love. Certa Cito."

Biography - Sean McCarthy

BIOGRAPHY OF SIGNALLER SEAN McCARTHY

RAMADI — A middle-aged Iraqi woman, widowed and a mother of two young children, walks into a cream-colored concrete classroom filled with women of all ages. The woman, draped in a black abaya, sits down in a wooden desk-chair and gazes at the instructor with a look of determination and conviction. She knows, along with the other women in the classroom, she must learn to read and write if she is going to continue to support and properly care for her two children and has taken the initial steps in bettering her family and herself.

Women’s Literacy Program classes are held daily at four locations in the city of Ramadi, and are designed to teach illiterate women how to read and write Arabic, while also teaching more educated women the fundamentals of English.

The program is divided into three levels, said Falah Daud Suleiman, an Iraqi instructor at one of the programs. The first level is for people who don’t know how to read or write. The second level is for those who know how to read and write, but require additional teaching so they can become proficient. The third level is for those who are proficient in the Arabic language but desire to learn English....(read more here)

Iraqi Air Force Increases Training Capabilities with Newly Acquired Aircraft

Thursday, 10 July 2008
By Army Staff Sgt. Michael J. Carden
American Forces Press Service

BAGHDAD — U.S. forces transferred ownership of 11 aircraft to the Iraqi Air Force July 9, during a ceremony at New Al Muthana Air Base.

Army Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick, commander of Multi-National Security Transition Command Iraq, signed over eight Cessna 172s and three Cessna Caravan 208s worth more than $9 million to Iraqi Defense Minister Abd al-Qadir al-Mufriji.

U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Brooks L. Bash said the aircraft would be part of the Iraqi Air Force's training program at Kirkuk Air Base in northern Iraq. Similar to the way the U.S. Air Force conducts its own training, the smaller Cessna 172 is the initial aircraft Iraqi pilots will learn to fly, while the Cessna Caravan 208 is the more advanced, graduated version, the commander of coalition air force training in Iraq added..... Verbatim: Afghan "'terps"

There are many stories from both Afghanistan and Iraq that the msm will never share. In Afghanistan - as elsewhere - brave locals work with our troops, often as interpreters. As elsewhere, these 'terps risk their lives daily because they are invested in their families' futures. What follows is in the Afghans' own words. It was sent to me via a US Major, who wants these voices to be heard; so do I. This IS the Afghan 'terps: VERBATIM.

“It was very tough not to be touched by him in some way,” said Terri Schall, Sgt. Kenneth Schall’s mother.

Kenneth Schall was enrolled at Glendale Community College and was studying to become a history teacher when the country was attacked on September 11, 2001. The event spurred him to join the Army. He served a four and a half month tour in Iraq in 2004 and returned in February of 2005.

Terri Schall last spoke to her son on Mother’s Day in 2005. “He sounded great — tired — but he said he was doing OK”, she said. Sgt. Kenneth Schall died when the Humvee he was riding in was involved in an accident in Yusafiyah, Iraq.

Along with his mother, Sgt. Schall is survived by his father and two younger siblings.

Robin Long

From the CBC:

Friends of U.S. army deserter say he faces deportation on Monday

Published: Wednesday, July 9, 2008 | 12:24 AM ETCanadian Press: THE CANADIAN PRESS

VANCOUVER - Friends of a U.S. army deserter who failed to get refugee status in Canada say the 25-year-old who fled to Canada to avoid serving in Iraq is facing deportation this week.

Supporters of Robin Long say he learned Friday at a hastily called deportation hearing that the Canada Border Services Agency plans to send him back to the U.S. as early as next Monday.

"This is quite a bombshell in what we thought was a pretty routine administration hearing," said Bob Ages of the Vancouver War Resisters Support Campaign.

Long had been arrested for allegedly failing to report in by telephone, Ages said.

"Rather than just getting a finger waving or upping his bond, they say, 'There's no point in releasing him because we're deporting him tomorrow."'...

Read the rest here. According to everything I read today, Long failed to report to wherever he was supposed to last Thursday - a telephone call, or some other major inconvenience for him. And, oh yes, he was arrested July 4th...:)

Now, of course the war resisters are up in arms (yes, pun intended....lol) and going to be rallying etc...blah blah blah. If you want to know more about Long and his fellow American war resisters, go here.

I understand about having principles and all, really I do. But again, I read that Long received orders to Iraq in 2005. No military genius here, but that tells me he signed on with the military after we had gone to Iraq. What did he think he would be doing in the military? Basketweaving? And, if he is that adamant that the war in Iraq is wrong, why NOT stay in the US and go a legal route? Ya know, like stand by his principles? There appear to be more than a few lawyers willing to step up and defend him.

The insanity continues!

The Tanker Brothers 100 Most Inspirational People List 2008

I recently read a list of the 100 Most Inspiring People of all time while desperately hunting for some inspiration for myself. It was one of the most unisnspiring things I have ever read. It was your average, run of the mill, what everyones expects to read list. After reading it I thought to myself...'I know far more inspiring people than this!!'

So as usual I headed to the Milblogs for a solid dose of inspiration...and then it hit me. What we need is a down to earth, real people only list of inspirational people. So I propose to all of you that we make this list and present it to the world for New Years.

The Tanker Brothers 100 Most Inspirational People List for 2008.

Please email me or leave a comment of anyone you would like to see added to this list along with any details that cn be added as a link. SA Warehouses are empty

The Soldiers’ Angels warehouses in NC & CA are empty! :(

Please be aware that both warehouses send out MUCH needed items to the soldiers (male & female), wounded service members and all those in need.

If you can't afford to buy AND ship, there is an alternative:

Walmart or Target cards would be wonderful!! Send the cards, allowing those in charge of the NC/CA warehouses to buy things needed.

OR IF YOU CHOOSE TO SHIP:

Things that are needed are socks, panties, bras, t-shirts, powdered drink mixes (the individual packets are best because they can be added to a bottle of water), cookies, Chips, Pretzels, Tuna in a pouch, Beef or chicken or turkey jerky, Cheese spread (no aerosol cans please), Ramen Noodles, Snack Cakes, Gum, Nuts, Granola Bars, Pop Tarts, Dried Fruit, Trail Mix, Pistachios, Raisins , Red licorice twists, Tootsie Rolls (both the candy and lollipops), Peanut Butter, Triscuits, Wheat Thins, Canned Meats – No Pork Products, Hard Candy – Individually Wrapped Face Cleansing Pads, Moisturizers, Wet wipes, Eye Drops, Lip Balm, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Soap, Body Wash, Shampoo and Conditioners, Deodorant, Sun Block, Foot powder, AA & AAA batteries, Craft kits, Scrap booking crafts, Books (mysteries, action, drama and science fiction are popular), Magazines – new or nearly new - (Sports, News, Entertainment, Travel, Nature), Decks of cards, Small hand held games, Crossword Puzzles, Baseballs, Baseball gloves, Soccer balls, Basket balls, Volley balls, Squirt guns, Frisbees, CD's, DVD's, Blank Cards, Stationary, Paper, Pens, Letters……..

Please keep in mind that all food items must be in the manufacturer’s original packaging. NO chocolate ~ 110 degree heat and chocolate do not mix well. M&M’s are fine.

We also need Ziploc bags for packing items; these are great not only to make sure that potentially leaky items don’t make a mess but also for the soldiers to keep sand out of their things while in the desert.

WOW...

John "I voted ffor it, before I voted against it" Kerry never ceases to amaze me:

Kerry had no kind words his Senate colleague Sunday, accusing McCain of poor decision-making on everything from backing tax cuts for the wealthy to making support for continuing the U.S. military presence in Iraq the centerpiece of his presidential campaign.

"John McCain ... has proven that he has been wrong about every judgment he's made about the war. Wrong about the Iraqis paying for the reconstruction, wrong about whether or not the oil would pay for it, wrong about Sunni and Shia violence through the years, wrong about the willingness of the Iraqis to stand up for themselves," Kerry, who supports Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

"If you like the Bush tax cut and what it's done to our economy, making wealthier people wealthier and the average middle class struggle harder, then John McCain is going to give you a third term of George Bush and Karl Rove," the Massachusetts senator added, echoing an Obama campaign talking point.

So, can somebody explain to me why John "Flip Flop" Kerry begged McCain to join in Kerry's Presidential bid as his running mate?

I mean, don't you have to trust your VP to be able to run the country in your absence?

This is just another example of the opportunists and politicians (not meant in a good way) that these people are. Life is simpler as a Soldier.

"Greater love has no man..."

Pte. Colin William Wilmot, shown in this undated photo, died during a patrol Sunday in the Panjwaii district near Kandahar city.
Pte. Colin William Wilmot

A Canadian military medic lauded by peers for his quick smile, sharp intellect, and generous heart has been killed by an explosion during a foot patrol in Afghanistan.

A Canadian military medic who lobbied hard to be sent to Afghanistan was killed by an explosion early Sunday near Kandahar city.

Pte. Colin William Wilmot died after a bomb exploded while he was on overnight foot patrol with troops from the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in the Panjwaii district.

Wilmot, whose age has not been released, was pronounced dead at the military hospital at Kandahar Airfield a few hours later.

The Edmonton-based medic was remembered by comrades as the top student in his basic medical course and a young man with a perpetually sunny disposition. They said Wilmot, who had been with the military for three years, was not originally scheduled to join the current rotation in Afghanistan, but demanded to be sent.

"He quickly marched in to see his regiment sergeant major to indicate he was eager to serve," said Brig.-Gen. Denis Thompson, Canada's top soldier in Afghanistan.

"Colin wanted it known that should a spot become available on the mission, he wanted in.

"He was selected to fill a vacancy soon after, because he was motivated, he was skilled, and because he was eager to make a difference in the lives of ordinary Afghans."

He leaves behind a fiancée, Laura. (CBC here)

You so DID make a difference, Pte Wilmot. Please keep all who loved Colin in your prayers, and a special one for all the medics who are working in KAF.

COREY! Go home

Remember this guy? He has been the poster child for a group called War Resisters in Canada. I wrote about him previously here.

Glass, for those of you who have already forgotten him (and I am sure that wouldn't sit well with him...lol) fled to Canada from the US army, of which he was a VOLUNTEER recruit, rather than be shipped back to Iraq. He has been fighting deportation from Canada based on the "illegal war", and the fact that he would be punished by the US military for deserting.

Turns out that Mr Glass has been so busy with public engagements, (oops I mean evading the nasty Americans), that he didn't hear about an important fact. I got a BIG chuckle this week to read that Glass was DISCHARGED from the military just four months into his life as fugitive.

Yes, ABC carried this story last week:

Since deserting his unit in Iraq and fleeing to Canada two years ago, Corey Glass has become the poster boy of the war resisters movement....

But it turns out Glass has had little reason to be on the lam, ABC News has learned.

Unknown to him and his legion of supporters, Glass, 25, was actually discharged from the U.S. Army shortly after he went AWOL in 2006....(here)

Back in January, I wrote on Tanker Bros about a national day of action.

This followed on the heels of a Supreme Court of Canada denying an appeal by the resisters claims in November last year. But then in December 2007:

the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration adopted a motion that is a step forward for U.S. War Resisters seeking asylum in Canada. In a vote of 7 to 4, committee members passed a motion recommending that the government immediately implement a program to allow war resisters and their families to stay in Canada. It also calls for an immediate halt to deportation proceedings in these cases...(here)

My original column on Tanker Bros can be found here for more background. The BBC here is also good background for an earlier interview with Glass. In the ABC article, Glass is quoted as saying:

"This is insane. This is so weird. There are no warrants? No one is looking for me?" (If you must, you can read the rest of that article here.)

Can you hear me laughing? Poor baby. I don't know about my American military friends, but if I was in the sandbox, I really don't think I would feel very safe with such a moron watching my back. And this guy was in 'intelligence' on his tour of Iraq? Puleeeeeeeeese, the mind boggles.

But, I have good news for Mr Glass AND Canada! Canada's immigration intends to proceed with their deportation of Glass on July 12. As Major Nathan Banks, a US military spokesman said (in part): "...He is fully welcome in the United States. ..."

So there ya go, Corey. You CAN go home again! The 'welcome' mat just might be there for you. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. :)

Talk Is Cheap...

I had to be about nine years old...
I had the privilege of attending a private school as I grew up. It was a very, very good school, one of the best in the area.
But, as we all know, kids are kids.
We had a friend. He was a year older than we were. We were in the fourth grade, he was in fifth. He was a really good-natured guy, but freakishly big. At ten, he could have easily been mistaken for a kid in middle school. He was a simple fellow, smart but guillable.
Ever meet someone like that? Has all the book smarts in the world, but dumb'r than a bag o' hammers when it comes to common sense?
Well, this guy fit that description to a tee.
Anyway, he started neglecting to bring his lunch to school. It's not that he forgot: on the contrary, his mom packed his lunch every single morning. It's just that his lunch had a habit of not making it to the cafeteria. Heck, his lunch didn't even make it to school grounds.
See, my friend was being tormented by a bully. A gang of bullies, as a matter of fact. As we all know, bullies are the biggest cowards in the world when they are alone, but when they hunt in packs, they have all the bravery in the world.
After a while, we told our friend: " Hey... you're much bigger than they are, and you're smarter than they are. They're just bullies! Stand up for yourself!"
He didn't... and he just kept getting bullied.
Finally, he couldn't take it anymore, and he told us he was going to do something about it. He said he was going to talk to them, and try to get them to quit.
I remember we laughed and said "What? Bullies don't know about talking. Thy know about fighting and taking what they want!"
But this guy, simple as can be, insisted that he was bigger, and smarter, and he was sure all he had to do was talk to them, and everything would be better.
The next morning, he shows up with not one, but TWO black eyes.
We asked him: "What happened?!?!?!?"
"I guess they didn't wanna talk," he replied.
Sometimes, some of the most important lessons in our lives, we learn when we're little kids. We learn that forks and knives do NOT go into electrical outlets (I know that one from personal experience). We learn that lying just leads to more lying, and you will always get caught in the end. And we learn that you can never, ever negotiate with, or talk sense to, a bully. So my question is this: why in the heck are we letting the people that expect us to vote for them... why are we letting them come up with stupid suggestions like "talking to our enemies, with no precondition"?
Barack Obama’s stance toward Iran is as troubling as it is dangerous. By stating and maintaining that he would negotiate with Iran, “without preconditions,” and within his first year of office, he will give credibility to, and reward for his intransigence, the head of state of the world’s chief sponsor of terrorism.

I was always taught that talk is cheap. Actions are what make things happen. And the only way to deal with a bully is to meet him on his own terms, and beat his senseless, so that he nevr even entertains the thought of bullying anyone else, ever.
Israel has the right idea. So when are we going to do the right thing? We know that Iran has a big influence on the Mahdi Army and Muqtada Al Sadr, in Iraq. We know that some of the most elaborate IEDs in Iraq hint at an Iranian influence. We have even captured Quds Force personnel in Iraq!
I have news for the Left: the Iranians are already at war with us, albiet a war by proxy, in Iraq. The Iraqi Army and Coalition Forces are doing a great job of shutting down Al Sadr and his Iranian Special Groups-backed bunch of crazies. But we, as a nation, just need to wake up and start "standing up for ourselves."
Because the only way to deal with a bully, is to beat him senseless.

Every Day Heroes

Meet Gladys Power, 109 years strong!:

Abbotsford, British Columbia – At age109 Gladys Power is a remarkable lady. With the First World war raging in Europe, everyone wanted to lend a hand and Gladys Power was no different.

Fifteen years old and living in England in the summer of 1915, she lied about her age and signed up with the Women´s Auxiliary Army. At the time both men and women had to be at least 17 before they could join the Army. She later transferred to the Women´s Auxiliary Air Force.

She remembers getting issued her uniform, a khaki dress, shoes and a hat. Her training consisted of learning the basic Army rules along with lots of drill. They would march with the men for two hours a day.

During the war women were employed to look after soldiers needs, from cooking to cleaning to doing laundry. For five years Gladys worked as a barrack waitress. She survived bombs dropped by German Zeppelin airships and remembers the food shortage at the end of the war.

Cyril Stokes, her only brother, was living in Australia when the war broke out, and he too joined up to fight. After being injured and suffering from shell shock, he was sent back to England to recover from his wounds. Gladys visited her brother in hospital, and that is where she met her first husband, Edward Luxford, a young Canadian soldier. In 1920 they were married and Gladys came to Canada as a war bride.

A proud and sometimes stubborn lady, Gladys has seen many things during her 109 years. When asked during our interview if she would like to take a rest or a break she said, "Hell no."

Gladys hopes "that all the boys and girls serving in Afghanistan stay safe."

Truer Words Never Spoken...

"It's kind of like the fight's never over," said Sgt. Jacob Fultz, 22, from Gardner, Kan. "It started on July 4, 1776 and now it's 2008."

CLOSE GITMO, MR. PRESIDENT!

I think just about anybody who is informed understands the far-reaching ramifications of the recent ruling by SCOTUS that any of the terrorists currently being coddled in Gitmo are to be tried in American civilian courts. Doesn't take a mental giant to be more than a little peeved to hear that now these people who wish America (and the rest of us) harm are going to be given civilian lawyers and full access to the same rights and priviledges as US citizens. Yes, it is insane, I know. You will also have heard all the outrage throughout the blogosphere.

Poison Pen (here) adds their 2 cents. Because I think they say what a lot of us are thinking, and it is a must read, I am copying the whole thing for you. Read on:

The Supreme Court has decided to give MY American rights and due processes to Foreign Terrorists.

NO.
You’re fired. You are relieved of your duties Supreme Court Justices.

Your votes to allow TERRORISTS American RIGHTS and Processes; SLAPS every Member of this Nations ARMED FORCES in the face. The military members that PROTECT our Freedoms and solidify our constitutional rights, the very soldiers that have fought, bled, and DIED for our Freedoms; you have just STABBED in the back by allowing the TERRORISTS to trample all over what they fight to uphold. YOUR FIRED!

Attorneys in the United States are waiting with baited breath to represent Foreign Terrorists and help them absolve their crimes against the people of Iraq, coalition forces, and American Soldiers with American Laws and Rights.

NO.
Your licenses to practice law should be revoked. You can give those Gitmo detainee’s your personal address and contact information if you feel they are so “innocent.”

“A Few Good Men”- "I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it." - Jack Nicholson

Gitmo detainee’s are there because soldiers had more than enough compelling evidence upon detaining them, turning them over to higher ranking officials, and sending them through an assortment of military processes to deem it VITAL that they be sent to Guantanamo verses secondary or lesser detention facilities. This is not an eenie-meenie-miney-mo-pick-a-terrorist-by-the-toe hap hazard random choosing of placements.

Gitmo is for leaders of terrorist’s cells and groups. The playing card types that the military had hundreds of actual names for. Gitmo detainees are organizers, leaders, high contacts and at the top of the tiers. Gitmo is like our Federal Penitentiary.

Abu Ghraib is for second rung terrorists, the lesser offenders. There is still enough compelling evidence and terrorism attacks on the people of Iraq and American soldiers to warrant detention. Abu Ghraib is similar to our state prisons.

Local people who have committed a one time or lesser degree act of terrorism under circumstances such as coercion by cell groups or rogue acts and most often because an organized terrorist group threatens their entire family with brutal death if the head of household does not perform according to their will, they are detained locally—but usually released after a short period of time and information is gathered.

What most Americans fail to understand, and the Media HIDES is that in THIS war, terrorists are not defined by a uniform, or an assembly of soldiers or particular front designator.

Farmer Joe down the road with 7 sheep, 2 goats and a field of palms owns at least one AK-47 rifle. It is STANDARD of the lifestyle and environment. His neighbor who fixes machines and sells vegetables at the market from his garden also owns an AK-47.

A village over-with friends, cousins, brothers, and assortment of cohorts; all have civilian “day jobs” and all own AK-47’s. Within each of these homes, one person keeps detonation cord; one person keeps remote equipment, another keeps cell phones, another chemicals, and still another parts and pieces of bomb casings hidden.

At night these civilians gather together and bring the bits and parts to plant IED’s along military traveled roads. Or they make vests to blow themselves up in crowded markets, or perhaps rig an old car so it becomes a super driven explosive through a convoy or checkpoint barrier killing as many as possible.

Then they quietly scurry back home to civilian life again. They don’t wear signs, patches, or insignia that screams “Al-Qaeda Iraq” or “Mahdi Army Militia” on them. They hide in crowds with rifles under their clothing, take their shots, drop their weapons and blend back in with the crowd.

The media spins words like “insurgency, militia, cells, groups, etc; to invoke or provide the American armchair warrior with an ideal that there is a “type” of enemy combative being fought.

THERE IS NOT. This is URBAN-GORILLA CITIES-TOWNS-VILLAGES filled with average people and no way of knowing for certain who is a combative or not. The moment of clarity comes in split seconds. The moment is when that “local” is pointing a weapon at a soldier, or walking into a crowded market with explosives wearing civilian clothing.

Our soldiers have less than 3 seconds to save lives. This includes the local civilians around them, soldiers in their squads, and themselves. 3 s-e-c-o-n-d-s. Hold your breath.

Military intelligence, local villagers, and Imams who are tired of their children dying, their homes being destroyed and their family members being beheaded in front of them turn in information on these terrorists. Military personnel then have to WATCH to verify that the information given is valid, always knowing that it is dangerous and could cost them their lives.

If our soldiers get into a battle with one or one hundred of these terrorists they do not have time to yell “STOP! I have to take some incriminating photos and oh by the way, will you the terrorists, please sign this form declaring your guilt in planting the IED that just blew up the humvee in front of us, and while you do that, lets all turn our backs and go pick up those shell casings we spent while shooting back under enemy fire.” (evidence and all)

Yet this is what the CIVILIAN ATTORNEYS who represent the terrorists want to use to FREE them.

“A Few Good Men”- "I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it." - Jack Nicholson

Has anyone in America stopped to think where the Gitmo terrorists will go after the Supreme Court Judge’s gavel declares innocence?

THEY WILL WALK STRAIGHT-OUT-OF-THE-COURTHOUSE-ONTO-AMERICAN-SOIL. If by some measure they are secured and deported back to Iraq, they will RESUME terrorist activities. THEY WILL. These are HIGH Tier Terrorists. Well organized, high RUNG of the ladder members. It does not require surveys and a special commissions group to determine whether or not it will happen. COMMON sense dictates here.

These terrorists have NO RIGHTS to MY AMERICAN rights.

CLOSE GITMO, Mr. President.

Send the terrorists to Iraq to the fortified prison Saddam stayed at, or Abu Ghraib where they can await trial on their soil, with their laws, their guards, and their oil funding paying for their comforts and detention.

Let the justice system that served Saddam, serve them.

Right now Mr. President, you have less than 5 months to complete one more solid task to insure security for OUR Nation.

CLOSE GITMO, Mr. President.

The "C" Hill Flag

Some of you know I am NOT American...;) Every one of my American friends shares my love of our respective countries, and all that our nations' flags stand for. My friend Don sent me a piece that I have to share with all of you, especially as you all celebrate July 4th. Don tells me he sends this to the troops who he and his wife Pat take under their wings as members of Soldiers' Angels, and Web of Support. He figures at least 1,000 copies of this have been in the sandbox. :) Stories like this are a part of what, to this outsider, makes America GREAT. Read on! Thank you, Don!

The “C” Hill flag

The “C” hill flag is located on the west side of Carson City, Nevada on a hill that looms over the center of the city. The “C” on the hill was constructed many years ago from rocks gathered from the hill and painted white. The “C” was built by students from Carson High School and has been maintained by students from the school over the years.

Shortly after 9-11 a couple of gentlemen who walked daily in the vicinity of the base of “C” hill were pondering doing something to demonstrate the patriotism of Carson City, and came up with the idea of erecting a flag above the big white “C” on the prominent hill above the city. As often happens the project took on a life of it's own and within a few months the first flag was under construction.

Access to the site where the flag was to be situated is difficult. Departing from the south end of town, 4WD vehicles are required to negotiate the steep rutted road climbing to the saddle in the ridge that leads to the top of “C” Hill. From there it is a very steep climb on foot down the face of the hill to the area of the big white “C”.

The original flag was constructed of vinyl panels attached to a framework of 2X6s anchored in shallow concrete footings. The vinyl panels were stretched over the framework and attached with screws. The panels had been laid out in the gymnasium of the middle school not far from the hill and numbered to make them easy to position. Bundled together in cargo nets a National Guard helicopter delivered the panels to the construction site. Over the next few days the new flag slowly took shape as the panels were attached to the wooden framework. It was a glorious sight as the Stars and Stripes gradually appeared on the hill. After a week of work by teams of volunteers we had a flag, a big beautiful flag. At 65'X120' the flag was visible from all over the city.

Though it looked sturdy it was no match for the winds that roar over the peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and on a very cold December morning in 2003 we woke to the realization that the flag was gone. Totally, absolutely gone. The vinyl panels had been ripped from the framework and scattered God knows where over the valley below by the 100 mph winds of the storm of the night before.

Not to be deterred and drawing on lessons learned from the mistakes made in the construction of the first flag, plans started coming together for a replacement. It had to be strong. It had to be permanent.

Over the next year a group of people from various specialties came together and an ambitious plan utilizing specially treated aluminum panels came to be. The panels would be anchored in deep footings dug into the hill, and the framework would be aluminum attached by long bolts going far into the concrete footings. Money became the immediate concern and the “C” Hill Flag Foundation was formed and began taking donations for the huge undertaking of erecting a new, permanent flag on the hill. Even with the donation of some of the necessary materials and manpower more than $50,000 would be needed to build the new flag.

Bag after bag of cement was hauled to the top of the hill in 4 WD pickups and SUVs and then was carried by hand down the face of the hill to the construction site. It was slow, tedious work, and it seemed the required 3,000 bags of concrete would never all be at the site. Citizens came forward with ideas and a local man who had pack mules volunteered his animals to speed up getting all that cement up the hill. In all over 85 tons of materials were hauled the 1200 feet up the side of that hill. The holes for the footings were dug by hand and the cement was mixed with water supplied by U. S. Forest Service water tankers and the footings with their long bolts were soon in place.

Next came the framework. The National Guard came forward once again and delivered the aluminum beams to the site by helicopter. There volunteers from the Boy Scouts, trusty's from the State Prison, fire crews from the Forest Service, and ordinary citizens built the sturdy base for the flag.

The aluminum panels ran afoul of the Forest Service, who owns the land the flag was located on, and the FAA who were worried that reflections from the flag would blind pilots flying into the Reno Airport. As the manufacturer of the panels went to work on reducing reflections from the flag by coating the panels, the bureaucrats from the Forest Service called for inspection after inspection on the base and framework of the flag. As the days and months ticked by it became obvious that the flag would not be finished in time for the third anniversary of 9-11, and the onset of a severe winter halted construction until spring.

Finally, in a flurry of activity the flag took shape and once again loomed over our lovely city. On a beautiful May afternoon in 2005, the official dedication of the second flag took place with flyovers of F-18s from Fallon Naval Air Station, and C-130s from the Air National Guard in Reno. Dignitaries of every stripe were present. Everything on that day was about the spirit of the Americans who had dedicated years of their lives to a flag, a symbol of the patriotism of a small town in the high desert of northern Nevada.

The flag is near and dear to the hearts of the citizens of Carson City, and as we drive around town our eyes are drawn to the hill with the big white “C” and the beautiful flag. Though it doesn't flutter or wave the flag is a beautiful sight as it disappears and reappears from behind trees and buildings. We are drawn to get as close as we can to the hill, to see the flag up close, but the best views are those that happen when the flag suddenly appears as if from nowhere. It stirs our love of this wonderful Nation. It reminds us that like the first flag on "C" Hill our freedoms are threatened by a different kind of wind, the wind of our enemies who would see us, like the original “C” Hill flag, blown away by acts of terrorism and murder. It reminds us that but for the bravery of our military heroes our Nation would cease to exist, and the greatest most perfect country ever to exist would perish.

That great flag on that hill is much more than just aluminum and concrete. It is America. It is a statement to all who see it, we will survive, we will resist, we will fight for what we believe in. We are Americans.

Don Lindsay

Thank you Don, for allowing me to post this! HAPPY JULY 4th to you all.

"...being a veteran...NOT a qualification to be President...."

That quote is part of an email from Vets for Freedom. You can bet that they have been watching the disrespect paid to veteran Senator McCain. And yes, they have lots to say:

As we all prepare to celebrate the 232nd birthday of this great nation, we as veterans have a duty and solemn responsibility to honor all of those who have worn or are currently wearing the uniform of the United States of America. Among the millions who share this common bond, 31 Presidents have had the honor and privilege of serving in our Armed Forces.

Today, as sacred guardians of our constitution, we are shocked that United States Senators and trusted loyal advisors to presidential candidates think that being a veteran and fighting for America is NOT a qualification to be President.

If service to one's country in armed combat is not a qualification to be Commander in Chief, what is?

For several months now we have observed the irresponsible judgment of some of Senator Obama's most trusted and loyal advisors as they have unfairly attacked the notion that a veteran is not qualified to serve as President.

Here are several examples of this poor judgment by Obama's supporters and advisors:

  • "I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be President." – General Wesley Clark, Obama Advisor and Surrogate, June 29, 2008.
  • "Everything is looked at from his life experiences, from always having been in the military, and I think that can be pretty dangerous…it's one thing to have been drafted and served, but another thing when you come from generations of military people and that's just how you're steeped, how you've learned, how you've grown up." – Senator Tom Harkin, May 16, 2008.
  • "... I think that the notion that the members of the Senate who were in the ground forces or who were ashore in Vietnam have a very different view of Vietnam and the cost that you described than John McCain does because he was in isolation essentially for many of those year…So I think ... to some extent his national security experience in that regard is sadly limited…" – Rand Beers, Obama Foreign Policy Advisor, June 30, 2008.
  • "McCain should calm down"..."on using military service…" – Senator Jim Webb, Obama Supporter, July 1, 2008....

Yes, that is MY emphasis. Now, you all are probably better-versed in the history of the US than I am (you BETTER be!), but it seems that this "being a veteran does not qualify anyone to be President" is a non-starter to me, and apparently to many.

I have long said, that with all our current servicemen and women returning home, I anticipate many of them continuing their service to their country, and stepping into the political arena. Why they would even consider entering the cesspool that is US politics is another question for another day. But the fact is, anyone who has seen combat as they serve their country with honour, has the patriotic credentials. And yes, VFF has something to say about that. It seems the veterans ARE stepping forward and heading in to politics:

Yesterday, Vets for Freedom rolled out the endorsements of 5 more candidates running for the United States Congress, most who have worn the uniform, all who strongly believe in the mission of our organization, as well as our nation's efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Global War on Terror.

Our candidates include extraordinary Americans – patriots such as Tom Manion, who spent 20 years in the United States Marine Corps and who gave his son in service to our country. I encourage you to watch his VIDEO made in honor of his son Travis, who lost his life in Iraq in 2007. Below are all of our candidates – help us support them by visiting their websites.

Tom Manion (PA-08) is a former Colonel in the Marine Corps, successful business executive, and Gold Star Parent whose son was killed in Iraq.

Steve Stivers (OH-15) is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard who was awarded the Bronze Star for actions in OIF.

Jeff Beatty (Senate–MA) is a former member of Delta Force, to FBI Hostage Rescue Team, to CIA's Counter-Terrorism Center.

Mike Rocque (NY-20) is a former officer in the Green Berets and Delta Force.

Allen West (FL-22) is a former LTC who served with distinction in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom, earning a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award

Lee Zeldin (NY-1) served in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division and continues to serve as a Captain in the Army Reserves.

Duane Sand (ND-At Large) is a Commander in the Navy who served in Iraq, and aboard 3 nuclear submarines throughout the 1990's

Kent Greenough (TN-04) is a former Marine whose family emulates service to ones country.

Tom Rooney (FL-16) served as an Army JAG for four years before teaching Constitutional and Criminal Law at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Political Science 101 anyone

Much is being written these days about Obama. No, I am not referring to the sycophants in the msm who have swallowed his empty rhetoric hook, line and sinker. I mean the stuff written by Americans who have a brain, and who use it to question, think for themselves. I found an interesting - FACT filled piece - which should be read far and wide before America goes like lemmings over the cliff.

Obama For Sale

Obama announced he would become the first major party candidate to forgo public financing ....we all know this. It means he will garner funding from "private" donors.

Who are the "private donors?"

Obama raised $22 million in May for his presidential campaign, his weakest fundraising month this year, and ended the month with $43 million cash on hand....interesting.

Hillary Clinton's loyal donors have already contributed the maximum to her campaign, so she needs some new sources of money to settle her debts. That's where Obama comes in _ his donors help her out, her donors help him. Suspicious.

People have forgotten that Obama has Oprah in his back pocket for a funding source.

Who else does Obama have?

Who are the "private donors?"

Are the "books" cooked?

Can the public see where the money train ends in the private sectors? We can see the PUBLIC records--the link is below. What about the private records?

Hypothetically, is it possible that since Obama is so well loved in places like Hamas, Iran, Cuba, ORGANIZATION OF THE PEOPLE'S HOLY WARRIORS OF IRAN, NATIONAL COUNCIL OF RESISTANCE (NCR), PEOPLE'S MUJAHEDDIN ORGANIZATION, Islamic radicals, Yousef al-Khattab.....that a large portion of his "private funding" have end-roads with these groups?

I say again, OBAMA FOR SALE.

OBAMA FOR SALE----To the best donors, with the deepest pockets and best script writers....

You think that this kind of information might have to do with WHY Senator Obama flip flopped from his original position of supporting public funding for campaigns, to now private funding? I guess I, too, would go for private funding if I had such money backers. And yes, there are names in this piece. The rest can be found at Poison Pen here. Go, read, and be educated.

An Open Letter To Jack “Cold-Blooded” Murtha

By Online Tuesday, July 1, 2008

From: warofwits.org
Congressman Murtha,

Were I you sir, I would hang my head in shame and pray to my Creator, begging His forgiveness for the pain that I’ve caused innocent people. And then I would perform some serious personal introspection to see what I could possibly do to begin the process of restitution for my crimes.

But you won’t because you have no shame.

As a member of the House of Representatives, you took a solemn oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. Despite what you may believe personally, taking that oath also means upholding the constitutional rights of the ever-expanding list of US Marines and other service-members who are unfortunate enough to have their tactical battlefield decisions dissected and judged by people in the comfort of air-conditioned facilities thousands of miles away.

You appeared on national television, looked the American people in the eye and told us that you had it on good authority that four Marines committed murder and four others covered it up.

It is you who murdered the truth in cold blood. You lied and you’re covering it up....

You’ve brought incalculable anguish upon the parents, spouses, siblings and children of eight innocent men based on nothing more than enemy propaganda planted by a Sunni agent of al Qaeda. And while you were busy trying to kill the rest of our military in Iraq; starving them of food and ammunition by tying up war funding with a morass of beaurocracy; people like me were busy listening to the anguished father of a Marine as he poured his heart out over the injustice perpetrated against his son. People like me were busy listening to the pleas of patriots such as Dave Wuterich, Andrew Grayson and Darryl Sharrratt, as they simply asked America not to prejudge these cases. But I found myself in a very tiny minority and it was due –in large part– to your public pronunciation of murder in cold blood, the stain of which your hands shall never be cleansed of....

That piece is written by Jayme Evans, U.S.N(Ret.), and he has much more to say about Murtha.
He adds an eloquent voice of condemnation to the chorus calling Murtha on his actions. You really should read the rest on Canada Free Press here.

In my opinion, it is the DUTY of every American voter to inform themselves on the issues, and their political hacks (mmmm, I mean 'representatives' of course.lol). The future of America is far too important to have not only an abysmal voter turnout at the polls, but to have that electorate make uninformed choices. Class is ended - for now!

Are They For Real??

I had a 'vision' this morning while reading the following article, a picture in my head of 'Allah' looking down from heaven and saying "You honestly think I'm letting you Dumb Shits in??" If all the Gods of all the religions had a gathering, I'm sure Allah would be to embarassed to turn up.

From the New York Times....

Permission

The Guidebook for Taking a Life

We were in a small house in Zarqa, Jordan, trying to interview two heavily bearded Islamic militants about their distribution of recruitment videos when one of us asked one too many questions.

Bejar

“He’s American?” one of the militants growled. “Let’s kidnap and kill him.”

The room fell silent. But before anyone could act on this impulse, the rules of jihadi etiquette kicked in. You can’t just slaughter a visitor, militants are taught by sympathetic Islamic scholars. You need permission from whoever arranges the meeting. And in this case, the arranger who helped us to meet this pair declined to sign off.

“He’s my guest,” Marwan Shehadeh, a Jordanian researcher, told the bearded men.

With Islamist violence brewing in various parts of the world, the set of rules that seek to guide and justify the killing that militants do is growing more complex.

This jihad etiquette is not written down, and for good reason. It varies as much in interpretation and practice as extremist groups vary in their goals. But the rules have some general themes that underlie actions ranging from the recent rash of suicide bombings in Algeria and Somalia, to the surge in beheadings and bombings by separatist Muslims in Thailand.

Some of these rules have deep roots in the Middle East, where, for example, the Egyptian Islamic scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi has argued it is fine to kill Israeli citizens because their compulsory military service means they are not truly civilians.

One wonders if the reason these 'rules' are not written down is more the fact that it would be a full time job trying to keep up with the constant changes and ammendments than anything else.

Rule No. 1: You can kill bystanders without feeling a lot of guilt.

Rule No. 2: You can kill children, too, without needing to feel distress.

Rule No. 3: Sometimes, you can single out civilians for killing; bankers are an example.

Rule No. 4: You cannot kill in the country where you reside unless you were born there.

Rule No. 5: You can lie or hide your religion if you do this for jihad.

Rule No. 6. You may need to ask your parents for their consent.

Words fail me. On the bright side at least now we can understand where they get the idea that they are the 'Religion of Peace'. It's because in their twisted little minds they can actually justify everything they do.

Essentially, their justification runs along the lines of 'Kill em all and let God (Allah) sort them out'. It's ok to kill people because if they are just in the eyes of Allah, they will go to heaven. That's it, shrug of the shoulders and an 'All good'.

Every country has it's laws. I'm sure from one country to another we believe others laws are too lax or extreme. Here in Australia we have an add on the tv with travel warnings about things that are not allowed in public in other countries such as public affection and photographing government buildings. To us, that is incredibly extreme, but these are laws we can deal with for the sake of a holiday. By law, in Australia, men and women are seen as equals. These are our ways and they suit us. Australian women are independent, they have their own careers/jobs and incomes. They are party to all decisions made in the home and actively engage in the right to rain down hell on any man that would try to tell them otherwise.

So when I, as a western woman, look upon the laws of Sharia I see once again how the 'rules' of Islam are so twisted that they could only ever possibly make sense to those who impose them...

Women's Rights and the Sharia

According to the Sharia, despite declarations of the equality of the sexes before God, women are considered inferior to men, and have fewer rights and responsibilities. A woman counts as half a man in giving evidence in a court of law, or in matters of inheritance. Her position is less advantageous than a man’s with regard to marriage and divorce. A husband has the moral and religious right and duty to beat his wives for disobedience or for perceived misconduct. A woman does not have the right to choose her husband, or her place of residence, to travel freely or have freedom in her choice of clothing. Women have little or no autonomy and are deemed to need the protection of their fathers, husbands or other male relatives throughout their lives. Any conduct that undermines the idea of male supremacy will fall foul of the Sharia.

The legal age of marriage varies from country to country, ranging from 9 in Iran to 13, 15 or 17 (in Tunisia). This follows from the marriage of Mohammed to Aisha, a 9-year-old girl, when the Prophet was 53. It should be noted, however, that the Prophet was allowed many actions by Allah that were denied to the other faithful, and not all Muslim scholars would accept the Aisha marriage as a precedent.

The various Sunni schools of law and that of the Shi'ites differ on a number of points important to women. In all schools, however, marriage is a contract according to which the husband should perform sexually and provide materially for the wife. The wife must have sex whenever the husband wishes. A man can easily divorce a woman by pronouncing that he is divorcing her three times. Polygamy with up to four wives is permitted, and in the Shi'ite sect, temporary marriage is allowed whereby a man can have access to an unlimited number of women. The practice is known as Mot'a or Sigheh. Men are also permitted concubines and female slaves.

In many Islamic countries a Muslim woman is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim man whereas Muslim men are allowed to marry non-Muslim women. With the object of protecting morality and preventing sexual anarchy, women are expected to cover their whole bodies bar their faces and their hands up to their wrists. The Sharia is totally opposed to freedom of dress – for women. This is obviously a huge barrier to the personal development of women, not allowing them to develop sexually and as people. It is inhumane to imprison women behind veils when it is the men who according to Islamic law cannot be trusted to control themselves. On the pretext of protecting their honor women are kept locked up, isolated and unable to enjoy a full life or to develop their potential.

In order to protect their morality women can have no contact with men to whom they are not related without the presence of a male relative. The segregation of sexes in this way makes it very difficult for women to leave their houses and participate in society in any way at all. Under the Taliban many war widows were forced into starvation. Their crime? Had they prayed harder their husbands would have survived!

Many apologists for Islam, women among them, argue that women are happy in their roles in Islamic society, happy to be afforded the protection of their menfolk and to be kept away from the gaze of other men. But this of course is a false argument. If some women want to stay at home under the protection of their men they can do so. But do the apologists for Islam have the right to tell all other women, including non-Muslims, how they should behave? Women deserve to be treated as autonomous human beings and for this reason alone misogynistic Political Islam and its imposition of the Sharia should be opposed.

So essentially we look upon the laws or rules of Islam and it's many little 'jihads' and see inequality, inconsistency and in some cases, downright idiocy.

It would be the equivalent of me shooting someone and saying in court "Yes, I understand that it is wrong but I was justified because he just happened to piss me off while I had a loadad gun pointing in his direction, therefore it was fully justified. However, had I actually had to find and load the gun while he was pissing me off, it may have been somewhat less justified and can therefore be considered a crime"!!

It also doesn't help that every law or rule has an, or in some cases many, addendums. Who the hell can keep up!! For example...

Punishments

Article 49 exempts children from punishment. Addendum 1 to this article defines a child as someone before puberty. But in the civil law puberty for boys is 15 and for girls 9 lunar years (article 1210, addendum 1). So girls come of age for punishments six years before boys. This is particularly striking since in everything else such as inheritance, custody over children, marriage, divorce, ownership, travel, giving witness etc women are considered delicate creatures in need of protection by men. But when it comes to being punished, suddenly they are more mature and responsible for their actions. Less rights, more punishment. One can imagine a situation where a boy of 14 and a girl of 9 steal. According to the law she would lose four fingers of her right hand for first offence (article 201), her left foot for the second offence, prison for third and execution for the fourth! He would go scott free.

Book 2 of the Islamic Penal Codes is devoted to hodoud (pleural of hadd). Hadd is defined as “a punishment in which its form, extent and character is defined in sharia’ laws” (article 13).

Article 134: “If two unrelated women appear naked under a cover without cause, they will be punished (ta’azir) with less than 100 lashes. If they repeat this act [despite] a repeat ta’zir, on the third occasion each will receive 100 lashes.” There is no male equivalent of this law.

Read more here...

While it should be noted that these articles are from different parts of the world, the religion is all the same. While Catholicism or Christianity can be discerned by area (for example Roman Catholics), there is no such discernment with Islam.

Wherever Islam exists in the world their teaching appear to be the same... Confuse the crap out of everyone then kill them. We can justify anything!! (Oh and you may want to make sure you have parental consent...)

Oh Canada - Vigilamus pro te

Today is Canada's 141st birthday. Don't we look good? lol.. Today, on this Canada Day, I am thinking even more than usual about our military. As everybody must know, we have troops in Afghanistan and in other hot spots. As we here in Canada celebrate our freedoms, be it with bbq's and fireworks, our men and women are serving our country, and facing dangers so that we don't have to.

I am blessed to know a number of Canadian soldiers and veterans, and have made it a point to write about them and their mission quite a few times here on Tanker Bros. At the end of last year, I named General Rick Hillier one of my Heroes of the year, alongside US General David Petraeus. In case you missed that one (gasp! lol) you can read it here. I also wrote about General Hillier when he resigned as Chief of Defence Staff here.

General R.J. Hillier, C.M.M., M.S.C., C.D

Chief of the Defence Staff

General R.J. Hillier, CMM, CD

Today is General Hillier's last day on the job as our Chief of Defence Staff. He is set to take over as the Chancellor of Memorial University in Newfoundland. He has served our military and our country well, and all Canadians owe him a great deal of gratitude for his service. I wish only great things for him and his family in the future.

Lt.-Gen. Walt Natynczyk is one of the top candidates to replace outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Rick Hillier.
Lt.-Gen. Walt Natynczyk
Matthew Fisher/Canwest News Service

Lt. General Walt Natynczyk is the man who takes over as Chief of Defence Staff. He is no slouch:

Lt.-Gen. Natynczyk has the experience; he is one of the few Canadian soldiers to have served in Iraq. He also shares Gen. Hillier's ability to communicate; as a colonel, Lt.-Gen. Natynczyk was given the job in 1999 as the chief Canadian Forces spokesman for the NATO-led air war in Kosovo....

Lt.-Gen. Natynczyk is a veteran of numerous peacekeeping stints in the Balkans in the 1990s, including as a commander, but he also distinguished himself by serving as a deputy commander of the U.S. army's III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas, part of a unique exchange program with the United States.

Gen. Hillier and Lt.-Gen. Natynczyk are among only three Canadian officers to take part in that exchange program, and the experience allowed both to hold a senior position on the largest U.S. military base, which at 60,000 strong, is roughly the size of the entire Canadian Armed Forces.

In 2004, Lt.-Gen. Natynczyk was also deployed to Iraq for one year following the U.S.-led invasion and served as the deputy commander of the Multinational Corps there. "Even though I am a contingent of one, I am able to attend some senior forums and proudly show the flag," Lt.-Gen. Natynczyk wrote in one dispatch back to Hillier, reflecting on the fact that he was taking part in a military mission that his county had refused to support.

In his current post, Lt.-Gen. Natynczyk has been charged with implementing the Forces ambitious restructuring plans, the so-called "transformation" that Gen. Hillier began....[here]

Lt. Gen. Natynczyk has already served our country well, and I am sure he will continue to be an ardent advocate for our military in his new role.

So yes, there are changes today, but also one major constant. As we here at home celebrate our nation's birthday, we would do well to be mindful of the men and women throughout our history who have stood on guard for us. Another constant, for me, is that I will always honour our troops who ensure we have a free country. I stand on guard - with gratitude, WITH all our troops.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

(and yes, go here for more on the history of our national anthem)
